hey softies,

i've got a problem, i've never been into soft synths and have finally decided to take the great leap. so i went down to Sim Lim and bought a cheap 60 buck midi-usb interface but the big booboo is that i cant get it to work with the soft synth demos i downloaded (Fruity loops, VSTs on cubase).

I use a Yamaha S80 and a Korg Karma. I cant seem to interface it with XGWorks to get it to transmit information.

Hope some of you pros can help. =)

How does your midi connection between the PC and the keyboard look like? Which outs to which ins?

i connected the cables in to the keyboard's out and the cable's out to the keyboard's in. i'm able to use it with my notation software but when it comes to syncing with the yamaha software. I encounter alot of problems..arghhh sian 1/2

Can you be more specific to the problem? What kind of problems are you exactly encountering?

Your connection should be: keyboard midi out->midi interface in -> USB. You only connect the other way (midi interface out -> keyboard in) if you want to trigger sounds from your keyboard via notation or sequencer. Otherwise, you are going to get echoing (you hear the keyboard when you first play it, it goes into the PC and out again, then triggers your keyboard one more time a split second later - giving you 2 notes). You can however turn of the local sounds on your keyboard to solve this.

But I'm still not getting exactly what is the issue you are facing.

you mentioned you are able to "use it with my notation software" ? meaning you can input notes via the usb keyboard?

if this is the case, your midi connection is correct.

next question is, are you able to playback anything from Fruity loops or VSTs on cubase? this is to make sure your software is set up correctly. meaning got sound when playback.

actually, the first thing to check is the MIDI(IN) Option in the software, make sure it is set to your USB keyboard.
