actually how do we obtain copyright for certain songs?pardon me i'm a little noob

To cover a song without the risk of getting sued/fined, all you have to do is ask for permission from the copyright holder of that particular song. The big companies will probably ignore you or make you pay a sum of money. I guess.

get hymns from hymn books in church if you wanna cover more taditional stuff. THose are public domain already. For the Mariah Carey stuff, yeah, they're copyrighted. THe composers are alive and kicking...

Don't worry. There're a lot of good hymns that are public domain. Just borrow a hymn book from a church that still sings hymns. Some hymns sound better a instrumentals. That'll help stretch your arranging muscles a bit. Of cos, originals are also highly encouraged. This should be more of a fun project, so dun get too stressed (though we certainly should do our best).

Anyway, if you want to do covers, by all means, please go ahead. But if you'd like to do a Christmas song that can be played on the Small Fry Podcast, it's just a little reminder that I can't play stuff that's still copyrighted.

Or better yet, if you have original Christmas music... Heh.

Bring on the Christmas spirit, man! Walking down Orchard Road, even it's all about the shopping for presents nowadays, still gives me a buzz especially when I hear all the Christmas carols being played.
