So, what's the deal with ibanez guitars?

body wise..i can tolerate s470..

but i dun need the middle single coil..

but have to agree..i love the unfinished neck.

thats why that being said, i do dig artcores, and the george benson guitars.

sub, you kinda missed the point, or maybe the fault was on my part that i didnt specify. you know, when someone mentions the word "Ibanez", the image that pops up immediately is an RG, or similarly shaped guitars. like the saber series.

yep, i think if you wanna talk about speeding up and down the fretboard, then its either ibanez/schecter/low-action-guitars. but more often then not, its the ibanez

yes- it's how the manufacturers market their products. the RGs are synonymous with the brand name 8)

there are people who deem the thin Ibanez necks unplayable. it just goes to show that there's no one sure formula for a common issue.

Most importantly it's affordable.

If Fender were the ones to make RGs, I bet the RG350s would cost like at least 1.1k list price.

I was recently told that the rg neck with 24 frets affects the tone of the neck pickup cos its pushed towards the bridge.. Something about the pickup not underneath the "node" i think..

Is this true? Or is it just a mindset?

The 24th fret is regarded as a 'sweet spot' for the neck pick up. In 22 fret guitars, the 24th fret sits directly on the neck pickup coil. But in 24 fret guitars, the neck pickup is pushed further back to accomodate the extra two fret, hence, the neck pickup does not sit directly above the tonal sweet spot.

yes makes sense, the neck pup sounds "fat" mainly because it is placed nearer to the middle of the guitar than the rest of the pups...

less overtones picked up = fatter fundimental note = bad pinch harmonics (or no pinch harmonics for certain notes)

above the 24th fret is exactly 1/4 (or 3/4 depends how u look at it) of the guitar's scale from nut to saddle. such a nice fraction means quite a number of common lower harmonic of notes' nodes would be above it (and thus not being picked up)

this is not to say that a 24-fret neck pup sounds worse compared to a 22-fret neck pup. they just sounds slightly different.. might be desirable or undesirable for some but i can live with it..

You don’t see many players play Gibson LP because of the price tag in Singapore. To make fair comparison, do you see many people play JEMs and J-customs?

J Customs? No, because it's harder to get. JEMs? Plenty. A couple of years back, in the Jim Beam Guitar Showdown competition at China Black, there were already 2 JEM users in the 12 contestants.

The winner played a Squier...

ibanez has high end instruments too you know....
J-customs ..Artists.. just to name a few
These give branded guitars that cost more a run for their money.

tonally they may never be the same as the classics. but production quality and good tone can never be ignored.

Of cos Ibanez are good guitars! The older ones are even better!

Yo nickyseow bro, why start this thread at the 1st place? You got bad encounter with Ibanezes? Haha.

DOF? nah... depending on the focal length a 5.6 would do quite ok.
Too much hotspots. Use a polariser OR get a better angle.

Someone buy that guitar.

cos he use direct lighting mah..tts y..FOCAL LENGTH!

TTS IT! tts the term..i forgot wad the term was..the closest i cud get is depth of field.

Whitestrat: The winner played a Squier...

Why does that sound so familiar?

Familiar? I don't know. Do you know who or what I'm referring to?

That was a good performance. Everyone had JEMs, PRS, Gibsons, all fancy guitars... (I think I got pics somewhere...) and this 19 year old kid comes out with a squier which he scalloped himself (hack job, but it works), and slayed everyone.

The organiser, knowing this kid was so good, deliberately scheduled him at the back, so that everyone else wouldn't be demoralised after hearing him play.

He was damn good man...

Is that considered plenty? Have you seen anyone plays JEM10, HAM 90, DNA, LNG, VDY etc? Sure there are some, that’s how JEM line survive but do you see many? Even 2820 or RGT3020, 2420 or 2720?
