So, what's the deal with ibanez guitars?

so, what's the deal with Gibson guitars?

so, what's the deal with Fender guitars?

so, what's the deal with __________ (insert guitar brand of choice) guitars?

xklusivly4u got it right, Ibanez's top of the line barely scrapes the bottom margin of Gibson. I see the les pauls out on sale and I see like S$36XX... then I walk into Davis and sees this 11k Single cut modern eagle, omg.

If you cared about looks, you would be partial. And if you're partial to Ibanez, just the Ibanez logo can induce serious GAS. If you are impartial, you'd go for Ibanez regardless of looks cuz they rock.

Sub, hehe Ibanez lovers are just taking this chance to spam their love for ibanez.

come to think of it.. i now think strats are the most common... at least ibanezes have different models that cater to everybody, but somehow... almost every band i look at has this aero shaped guitar and a white pickguard..

if you understand the philosophy of the guitar companies (whose motifs are largely commercial), then you'd agree that one does not aim to scrape the other's bottom, especially so when their products are of different makes.

it would add credit to this discussion if Ibanez makes set neck guitars primarily to give the Gibsons a run for the money.

Ok, i for one, love fenders, they play well, sound good, but i'm using and ibanez. Why? Because for the same price, i can get something from ibanez that plays better, sounds better, and looks even better. I see alot of talk about gibsons. Ok, i think gibsons are overrated and overpriced, i've tried quite a few, LP, SG, and i was lucky enough to try a firebird, the feel of an LP, trust me, it is exactly like the feel of an iceman, except that the iceman has better upper fret access. The SG felt reeally good, but, guess what? I get the same nice feel from a fender for a fraction of the price. When you buy a gibson, trust me, 50% of what you're paying is for the brand. You don't get that from Ibanez.

This is an endless thread...

i use to diss ibanez guitars for their looks too in the past however, after getting my own ibanez , i feel that it just suits me and is comfortable to play. so wat if its plain and boring, the music it makes stands up for it.

quote Hydrofly: When you buy a gibson, trust me, 50% of what you're paying is for the brand. You don't get that from Ibanez.

the current talk in my office (in the mean time), is unfortunately (to me- because it entails the fierce defence of a personal, favoured brand, at the exclusion of other mindful considerations) branding power, the strength of which would deem one product to be better/ more superior than others.

i would think that, for one, ibanez provides fairly reliable tremolo systems on most of their guitar models below $800.

and maybe that is one very strong reason why people get them.

secondly, maybe, only maybe, people whom we see (aka performers etc) use ibanez for so and so reasons, be it price : quality : brand ratio.

there's another 90% of the population u haven't seen and u cannot assume they all use ibanez.

i would think ibanez is one of the few brands brought into singapore which offers good price for money mid range guitars. and they have many models in this range compared to others in the same category...

there are a million and one unknown china brands out there which can be mostly considered butchered wood funiture made to look like a guitar which costs $200 to $400 but these can't beat the mid range $400 to $1000 guitars which ibanez dominates in sg.

singaporeans are pragmatic ala the govt. so we tend to grab the guitar which is most progmatic to us. can play, feels nice, reliable trem, some kinda brand, and not so ex. i don't think the reason for looking unique is stronger than those other reasons state above for most.

ok i should shut up and continue my top secret practises to avoid SOUNDING like every one else...

they definitely do NOT suck..

they are really value for money..seriously..in fact i wished that companies like squire and epiphone wud produce quality budget guitars like ibanez..

IBANEZ FAN HERE!!! haha. just love them la. best axes you can get for the money. like cmon man. i think its the most endorsed brand by the biggies like vai, satch, timmons, PG.. Even their budget range are more value for money than some squire or ep i've got a RG370dx and i cant wait to get a new ibanez guitar!!!! :D :D :D

LONG LIVE IBANEZ!!

WOWWW nice replies folks, and honestly, i appreciate all of them. ALL.

now. im not here to diss ibanez, i dunno whether you think i am, but pls open your eyes. :D i did state im not here to diss ibanez. i just think most of their guitars have the very generic "electric-guitar" look. Im not talking about the pgms which i trully drool over at times, or even the artcore, or heck, even the noodles model one.. its JUST generic!

and this is my 2 sens worth! im not here to hurt anyone.. you have a choice at what you want to buy. i for one, have seen one too many guitarists with the ibanez guitar into a GT 5/6/8 or a pod xt into mixer or amp. i mean come on..

and im not talking about custom designs here. please. i dont have that kind of money to spend.

NOW.

if you're talking about fenders and gibsons, they're not that common, cos of the head shape, which can be so beautiful at times. in fact, i do think that the fender strat is damn common too. but i REALLY dig the tunes coming from the neck pup of most strats out there. so go figure..

About LPs, those can be common, but i dont think they are common. and im talking about genuine gibson LPs. call me a brand snob, but i still think that owning a real gibson LP or any gibson guitar for that matter, makes you love your guitar more, and feel shiok owning her.

yes, you can play the "playability-over-looks" card and the "bang-for-buck" card, but come on. lets face it. part of you plays the electric guitar for the glam and/or shiokness factor. tell me thats not wrong. just a small, oh so small part of you wants to rock out and have fun on stage with your mates making music, cos its fun, and it looks COOL. correct or not. this can be applied across the board from home wanking post rockers like pathein bro, and 80s hair metalers like edder bro!

now, about what gear i own, i own a mij 52 RI telecaster fitted with budz purebreds, and a mij jazzmaster with stock pups.

the reason why i got the tele initially was not for the twang to be honest, but because the guitarist of the now-defunct band The Rasmus owned one, and played some awesome riffs on it, and i wanted to emulate that. but it was over time that i came to appreciate my tele for what it really was.

and the jazzmaster? indie cred. HAHA. :D

no la. just pulling your leg. i really digged (dug?) the finish on the JM on the ishibashi website, and it was going for like 900 sgd, so i thought, why not man.. and i found i can get really awesomely "clean" cleans if you know what im saying, with a JM.

look at the ibanez headstock and you know its an IBANEZ.
so you're saying? huh? duh? huh?

SQUIER 51 FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
