so...vPost lost my bass

i bought a bass off a Talkbass member about a month ago. it arrived safely at the vPost California address, and it was matched with the invoice i sent, and i successfully completed the payment by credit card on the 17th of July.

two weeks later, still no sign of any delivery. i called up vPost to ask them if it had arrived in Singapore, they said they currently did not have any information on it, and would have to send out a request to find out where it was, and would call me back when they received the information.

i learned later that big companies don't give a shit about calling you back, so i called them again recently. this time, they told me that not only was the bass not in Singapore, they couldn't even find it at the vPost USA location. gone without a trace. according to them, they had already filed a case for me and were looking into it.

now, a few things to note:

1. the package had been matched with the invoice when it arrived, which means that it did arrive successfully at the vPost USA location. the Fedex tracking info provided by the seller backed that up.

2. so, how could it have gone missing in that short period of time between the package being matched and me paying (i paid shortly after i matched it)? it's not as if it's a tiny letter that might get misplaced somewhere, this is a freaking double-boxed BASS that totally killed me in shipping costs of volumetric weight.

3. to ship it out, they would have to find the package first. so, if they couldn't ship it out for over two weeks, that means they must have found that it was missing every since i paid on the 17th. so, what the hell have they been doing between that day and when i finally decided to call them?

this isn't any cheap ass bass i bought, it cost me 800USD and $230 in shipping costs. if vPost has really lost it, that means i just lost $1300 entirely due to vPost's incompetence. i didn't buy insurance because the shipping costs were already breaking my balls, but seriously, what are the chances of it disappearing even BEFORE it's even left the damn vPost location? it's like having your guitar locked in its hardcase one day, and you open it another and go "whoops, where's my guitar gone?"

right now, it hasn't been confirmed that it's missing. but by the looks of it, this may not end well. any advice on what i should do?

they tend to screw up occasionally..like you said its not a small item, so my guess is its misplaced, worse case scenario shipped out to the wrong destination..in any case if they ship it to you, make sure they waive the shipping fees or threaten a lawsuit..if its lost they should have to bear full responsibility..

Sorry to hear of ur mishap, bro..I've used Vpost many times before and I've not experienced anything like urs. If its confirmed lost, Vpost should refund u the full fees that u paid for.

By right, they should have updated u on whats going on from the moment they noticed something was wrong.

Vpost has a history of hiccups..a fellow softie that I assisted help with, bought an amp head in the US and have it send to Compton, and only to have it diverted to Portland. He told me electronics were not allowed in Compton and had to be sent to Portland. I was surprised that I did not even hear this rule before. Even before I heard this rule, I've send all my stuff to Portland, so I've no problems.

Hope u can sort out the matter asap, bro..I understand what ur going thru..feel free to PM me if u need help..

vpost usa didnt ship the item at all. if they did they would know. right now, the scenario is, the seller shipped the item safely to the vpost location in US, and it was already matched.

after that. the bass just vanished.

question is, worst case scenario, whats gonna happen. whats the compensation.

i read this from vpost:

13.2 On the condition that We are satisfied that Your claim of loss or damage to the Shipment or Item or contents thereof is justified, Our liability for loss of or damage to Your Item or its contents thereof shall be limited to the following sums:

(a) S$60 (Singapore Dollars sixty) per Item, or the declared value of the Item, whichever is lower, for Singapore as the country of destination, or

so is the compensation only 60bucks? thats will be pretty f***ed up

I suggest that if they refuse to refund you the full value of your lost bass AND shipping, you lodge a complaint with CASE.

I had a similarly bad experience with vPOST USA when Amazon sent me a wayyy oversized package, and I wanted to return to sender rather than pay $250 in shipping for a $70 item. They took TWO MONTHS to get the entire mess settled, taking up to 2 weeks at a time to reply to one single mail.

vPOST really needs to wake their f-ing idea up. To the TS, I hope my experience tells you that maybe they will get it sorted after some time, but if they explicitly say that there is nothing much they are going to do for you in terms of compensation, you should let vPOST experience the full wrath of an incensed customer....

i jus received a huge guitar parcel from vpost usa.. fortunately for me it arrived, but i must agree that vpost is lacking somewhat on their service side.

my case was that the vpost website constantly put 'waiting for delivery' even up to 8 days after payment was made. i decided then to email them, asking where the item was and demanding an explanation for the apparent delay.

the next day, the website was updated: arrived in singapore.
i got an email from some personnel apologizing and saying that i shud receive the guitar the same day.

sorry to hear about ur bass, u shud complain. probably it'll help vpost with their admin side.. and the synchronising between singpost and vpost usa/eur/jap

as far as i know, vPost doesn't offer international tracking...

anyway, just an update. i'm planning to go down to the vPost office (it's the one at Paya Lebar, right?) after the national day break to give them a piece of my mind in person. i'm trying to prepare for the worst case scenario in which i've effectively lost $1.3k and a main bass.

that said, does anyone know a luthier who can level fretboards, cut nuts, replace pickups and electronic and do shielding altogether?

all the best bro!

Sad to hear that bro. If this same scenario happens to me, I will take legal action and hope to get every cent or maybe even more as compensation....

Hey man, I feel for you. Man, if I were in your shoes I'll really be pissed.

Don't let it just slide over no matter what. From my personal experience, sometimes these people need a nice kick in the gut to get moving.

Try Malcolm? Sorry to hear about your Vpost incident though. I was actually considering using Vpost. But after reading this thread and learning about Vpost's history, i might think twice about it.

After hearing this, I'll probably think twice about ordering anything from overseas... I hope you get compensated for the loss. If not, then V-post has really betrayed the public's trust.
