looking through musicians wanted; kinda sad to see some rather narrow minded musicians. ahh.

Maybe it's easier to communicate with people of the same race? 'Coz you could use the same language at times...it's much more comfortable, I guess...

hey visa, tot i only saw 1 of such posting?(chinese music bands aside) anyway, hope u wont be too irritated by such people, u play well, its their loss. ;)

sooo sad  im not chinese but i wont mind having in a group any race as longs as they can jam with the same frequency heheheh and having fun playing.
peace

Jeez.. In the bands that I'm playing at the moment, i'm like the only non-chinese. And we got no problems on that.

Sometimes, the English isn't very good, and some want to play chinese songs. So there.

Sometimes indeed; but still? we live in Singapore, don't we?

Some do want to play chinese songs and that is fine. Actually as a bassist I don't care what the language of the music is, I particularly enjoy playing j-rock and even visual kei sometimes. But it's completely understandable lah.

But there are several bands that simply want to cover Green Day that have the chinese-only thing going on. And that's sad, because if you don't want to embrace one another, at least don't be exclusionists.

Well I won't deny that. Even Malays sometimes try to find fellow Malays. It's always perceived to be easier communication (probably we like speaking in our native languages.)

Saw your response on the Musicians Wanted thread. I guess exclusion isn't very politically correct, but that's life. All I can say is, it doesn't really hurt to try and ask if they mind non-Chinese. You never know.

SOFTIE -distortedsoul- pmed us and said he wanted to drum for us, and so we spent weeks talking to him on MSN (we were both unable to jam at the time) getting to know him etc, and then we agreed to jam. Come the time, he didn't show up. Only 1 hour before did he tell my singer 'yea im coming'. He then no longer picked up his phone, answered pm's, (despite us being able to see him online), SMS's, emails, and blocked us all on MSN. What the fu ck happened? Maybe he didn't want to join our band anymore, which is 100% fine, but have the common decency to tell us and not just ignore us forever. Just a word of warning if this fool wants to meet with you -> his name is Prahbu/Prabs.

i'm fine with anyone as long as they can play! but the problem is, like thor said, communication problems. i dont really have a lot of friends from other races to start with cause perhaps we just dont click? i guess thats the way it will be for a long time, sad but true.

Hmm. Just to clarify, I think it takes two hands to clap. Both sides should try out each other - you never know what kind of chemistry you have together even for different races in a band.

In fact, I have been in bands where all of us were Chinese - and I had difficulty communicating. It all depends on a lot of factors.

I would think though, for a band that's predominantly playing Chinese/Malay/Indian songs, it can be hard for multiracial members in the band.

in my opinion looking at race first when looking for a band member is stupid ah. it doesnt have to be just about the music. i think u need to be able to click with ur band members in order for it to work. not saying u have to be soulmates, just able to be comfortable with one another.
