So I got a HH guitar...

Now I wanna change the wiring a little...

My guitar is an SG copy, so it has 4 knobs.

I'm thinking of doing a few mods to it:

1) Take out two knobs, and replace em with 2-position mini-switches (Switch 1 and Switch 2)
2) The two remaining knobs will become master tone and master vol.
3) Switch 1 will toggle between humbucking and single coil sounds
4) Switch 2 will toggle between normal and variation.

With this mod, hopefully I'll have a little more tonal variety...

When switch 2 is at normal, switch 1 toggles between standard humbucking (coils in series) and single pickup sound (coils in parallel).

When switch 2 is at variation, switch 1 will toggle between an unique humbucking sound with the pickups' centre taps connected to each other, and a true single coil sound, without humbucking.

You get what I'm trying to say?

Anyway.. the wiring diagram -

Where can I get such a project done and how much would it cost me?

H-H config eh.
I've done too many mods on switching for that config... lemme see if I can help.

1st question, your "variation" switch. You mean to say, when it is used, what happens is that regardless of your pickup selector position, you have the inner coils of your 2 humbuckers in series?

You could do what I did, which for me, gave me the most out of my H-H guitar last time.

2 x on/on/on DPDT mini toggle, one for each humbucker.
This toggles between series, parallel & coil split.
Wiring diagram on www.guitarelectronics.com

So with the 2 on/on/on DPDT switches, you have almost everything.

Neck in series, split, and in parallel, bridge in series, split and in parallel, and ANY combination of the above.

Thanks ShredCow... Kinda clearer picture now, but still not 100% sure.

Is there a place where I can show them the diagram, describe the results and they work on it? How much can I expect to pay?

Also, how to check if my pickup has 4 conductors?

4 conductors = 4 wires from pup.

I dunno about how you would describe to a tech, I used to do my own soldering then later, I got to know another guy who knew his stuff well so I did not have to go and send diagrams.

You can get the diagrams and stuff, a proficient tech would know what to do.

Cost, I wouldn't know, only the tech would know.

Okay cool. Does Beez do such projects? Cause I'll be switching the pups as well. Basically I'm just doing an overhaul of my guitar la

If he doesn't, would it be possible if you PM me the contacts of the tech you're talking about? :P

hey dude,
its not difficult to do the mods yourself eh. i started out knowing nuts about pickups and eletronics, but reading from the web and all, and just plainly following diagrams, i've learnt a lot about why this wire has to go here etc. and how pickups work and all. apart from the diagram shredcow shown, you can go check out the seymour duncan one's which i think are pretty good too.

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/schematics.shtml

i downloaded all of em and experimented on a few of my guitars. like you, i also use H-H configuration. eh...for some reason its the only one that appeals to me.....all my guitars are h-h except for one. lolx.

a good guitar tech to approach would be beez. but you could approach kelvin from guitar connection too, or davis does wiring too. just gota make it clear to them exactly what you want, that's most important.

and also just a point to note, it's good to invest in good switches and pots. because the not so good ones tend to start crackling just after a few months of usage.
