Snare wires

Hi all,

Can someone please explain to me the concept of snare wires.

How much of a difference does puresound one sound over a yamaha one that comes with the snare drum.

Also, are there different types of snare wires for different music.

Also are there different sized ones for different sized snare?

Lastly, if snare wires have more strands, its it just louder?

I'm asking cos i have a 13" snare and am considering changing the snare-wires to experiment with the sound. Any recommedations?

Try first any snare wire. Why worry? Since U said that its an experiment, there's no need to worry.

i dont think theres much difference for the type of genre played, but of course the sound wont vary very greatly. but dont simply buy wires haha they aint cheap, especially puresound. hm the sound would be around the same so just get a good one that is durable. its more of the makeup of the snare drum that varies the tone and sound.

there is a HUGE difference with puresound, i was hesitant at first cause they cost a freaking bomb, but i tell they really really add so much crispness to ur playing. here's a way i found to check if snare wires are good, take a standard snare and place it against a puresound. now bend both wires into an arc side by side. now run ur fingers through them i garantee you the puresound will sound louder, clearer and the tone will be alot nicer.
puresound is made from brass while other ssteel, now there s a reason why trumpets and sax's and all the horns are made from brass, cause its very muscial. silver actually has the best sound but........

i can do import for you. slightly cheaper i suppose.. just have to wait a week or two. i personally order them from US retailers and get it airmailed here. You can order it yourself too if you want, but well, i'm just offering a service. In US, those snare wires are like 28 USD, singapore about 50 bux flat only. Some other shops sell it like 79 SGD. Its ridiculous that shipping for those wires cost 29 dollars right? Yeah, so please advice. take care.

yeah, market small u see. then its hard to bring in variety, because there's no market for it. and there's no presence of competitors', therefore, prices are marked up a lot. I mean, if you were to get stuff in singapore, it would be pretty common, and everyone will have exactly what you have. I mean, practice still matters most, but for me, being a collector, doesn't mean i have to be a professional. I just treat it as something that makes me happy. If you think likewise from me, no hard feelings. i'm not condemning any product here, its just, i want to be identified for being unique for my equipment, and not "skills and professionalism". like having a ferrari .
