I suppose that term is for smoking vocalists to make them feel better.
Wouldnt screaming + smoking make your throat go bad twice as fast?

Hahah, yea. It takes years of practice to get it to sound the way I like it to. It's even more challenging when I'm doing it while playing the guitar. Hahaha :D

yea, but i noticed a big diff from smoking screamers and non smoking screamers...
non smokers kindda tend to have a raw fryish sound...
while smokers have a deep sound

I don't really agree though. I don't smoke but I can scream and growl pretty well. Basically, it's all about how you pace yourself. Don't put too much force into the scream and you will be able to keep it on for a long time, as I have discovered through the hard way when I use too much force and my voice becomes hoarse. Keep practising and you will get it! =)

Seriously the link to that Roadkill cover had crazy power screams man..

but sorry TS, I only know smoking hardens my arteries and help make my girlfriends scream at me more for the ash... so maybe smoking help other people's screaming

No, smoking does not help you in screaming. Helps you if you want throat cancer. Don't get me wrong. I've done singing periods before and after smoking. From my experience, it DOES NOT help. Please don't try it as smoking is really bad for you.

Cheers! :)

quit smoking lar. then put the $ you save from cigarettes in a gear fund. save up enough in your gear fund can get new gear.

Yes, to a certain extent because smoking can give you the raspy quality. But it's not recommended because you won't be able to control how raspy you want to go and smoking can damage your vocal abilities and range of voice.

So there is no easy way to growl/scream, learn to do it properly using the vocal fry.
