sitar sound

octave fuzz - check out the Maharishi by Freakshow effects.

Boss DD-3, has a clip somehwere that showed a similar vibe.

Look up the Planet Waves Joe Satriani chrome dome pick - there is a website demo where Satch shows how to mimic sitar-ish sounds.

hahah yeah i've been wondering too.

eh just curious, are u asking this because u want to emulate the solo for one way ticket by the darkness?

is there an effect pedal that does trumpet sounds?
hahahah would be cool if one exists eh?
imagine, a trumpet solo in a death metal song

Yea the Roland GR-20 will make it sound like an authentic sitar. And any other traditional instruments

haha no! I don't know where I heard it, kashmir (you're a led fan right?) or some dir en grey song.. I was searching youtube for different pedals but all came out shitty responses!

Wait, I don't even know if it sounds like a sitar.. But I guess you guys know what I mean

Use lower output pickups - use tone control - use overdrive. Roll tone to 0, pick note, roll up tone quickly.

There you go. Trumpet tones.

On some setups, using fingers will get you there already.

haha i happen to be reading Guitar World mag now.. Led Zepelin splashed all over it.. haha okay, I will listen, but still, no other ways to get that sitar sound except those mentioned?

If your band has a strong Indian sound to it, best to use a real sitar.

If it's just for one song or just for the fun of it, you can always invest in anyone of the suggested stuff (which IMO isn't gonna get you even close) or don't bother at all.

The sound is tempting, yes. But sometimes the whole feel of the vibe can be attained by knowing what scale to use. I'm not sure, but I don't think the scaling for Indian classical music is as simple as the major, minor and pentatonic? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe you can try...

Amp:

- Bass - all the way down
- Mid - just about 9 o'clock
- Treble - all the way up

Pedal:
- phaser
- reverb (very wet mix)
- delay (slight... maybe)

Guitar:
- Single coil
- Alder or similar bright sounding body

Never try it before but I'm making a calculated guess.

Btw, you might wanna check out what THEY are using:

I believe it's the phrygian dominant scale.
Go hear wherever I may roam by metallica.
There's a sitar in the intro too if im not wrong.

I'm surprised that nobody had mentioned this yet.

My Korg AX3G has this "Drone" effect that simulates the sitar sound, or something like that. I have not used it before, though. The Danelectro pedal looks damn cool. Anywhere to get it here in SG?
