Singing emotional songs

What are the most emotional song(s) you've sung and how did it feel singing it?
What songs/themes bring out the most emotions out of you and what happens / how does it sound when you sing it?

This is a semi-continuation thread on the topic of injecting emotion in singing :P Since all that is technical theory-based jargon, let's keep it aside for a while and just talk about this. :}

.. Emotional, not emo k?
Unless you find emo music emotional lah, whatever rocks your boat.

----------

For me it's Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work".
Other than the song lyrics reminding me of the trials of being parents, the video didn't help putting in the idea that the wife died at childbirth or the risks of death when giving birth or something. Maybe it's a coming of age thing on my side (lol) and the way Kate Bush sings it with the buildup, I don't know, but I cannot sing that song without crying. Haiz. Wasted, else I'd have covered it or something..

And I feel like killing myself after singing through 3/4 of the song. If the tears don't stop me first lah lol.

So what's yours?

I know this sound stupid but I tried My Chemical Romance's Cancer. I thought it was a really meaningful song and the image from the lyrics come to mind when I sing it and I sound real sad okay? I feel so sorry for people suffering from cancer especially my cousin who died from it so it's easy for me to relate it.

For me songs r your guardian angel and one of my original;never ending.
Well for themes, it shuld be naruto's; hokage funeral

Thats for me!!!

lol.
I recently learnt this German song from my CCA.
It's called Im Erdenraum, text by Franz Alfred Muth, composition by Josef Gabriel Rheiberger.
It's just a very touching song.
It's not really the emotional kind when one cries whenever you're singing it.
The rough translation is about like this (used online translator. lol):

"In the ground connection area of sleep and dreams
only the moonlight breaks the sky.
Not loud, no sounds,
the valley long,
all wrongs are far.
O summer night fully splendor
kiss the wounds too.
O teach me to pray,
full of splendor!
O quiet also, with your breath
my longing - O summer night!"

It's like, you're this king who worked so hard for 50-60 years and you've decided to stop and retire, relax and take your time growing old. Asking the summer night to kiss and heal the wounds and blow the troubles you carried for a long time away.

:)
I love love love it.

to zanarkand - Final Fantasy X
i never played the game but when my friend played it on the piano i almost cried.

Mad World- Gary Jules/Tears for fears

Great song selection guys, I'm gonna try hunt that german song down. Lol.

Do you guys believe that a song emotion is heightened when you can relate to the lyrics? Or is it just another sort of preference? Or is it the same as whether you can relate to them or not?

One song that i can really feel is Rick Price's Heaven Knows. Even though you're not really in love with someone, you can relate to it cos you like that someone and it sort of gives you that hope.

Relating to the lyrics is very important in getting the emotion out in a song. It really shows your professionalism as a singer in the sincerity of your tone and voice.

But another thing that i think we're sort of missing out is that, singing the lyrics as if it were our own. Cos for those singer-songwriters out there, i believe that when you've written a song and when you play the chords or music, the words just fit in place and you have that melody going cos you feel the words and harmony of the music going together.

In other words, even if you relate to the lyrics but yet try to mimic the emotion of the original track, you're doing a good job but you can do a better one.

Best thing would be to try and think what the lyrics would mean if you had wrote it.

Good luck with hunting the German song down!
Been doing it for about a month now, nothing.
No sound clips, no samples, no videos.
: (
my score says the composer's from 1839-1901.

It'd be 25 minutes from Michael Learns to Rock and Amazed by Lonestar as they are songs that remind me alot about the past heh ^_^ but the most most emotional wan i've tried would be
How am i supposed to live without you by Michael Bolton so far definitely not the original key but half a semi tone down for more comfortability..love Michael Bolton songs btw =P

Bolton definitely has a unique style and voice to his singing, he uses a lot of accents (short, cut-off notes) and crescendos (soft to loud/powerful) to emphasize or de-emphasize songs.. but I can't get over him cutting his hair short lah, missed the old days when he had his lion locks... :P

Ey is he still alive?

she's gone - steelheart

One song would be 'I Can't Make You Love Me' by George Michael.

'Cause I can't make you love me If you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
And I can't make you love me if you don't...'

I think the Ryan Star rendition of Losing My Religion was amazing in terms of emoting, and it's one of the rare covers that outshines the original. The lyrics really mean a lot to me, so it's hard for me to sing that song without getting emotional.

Another song that I have trouble singing is Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own by U2. It talks about the singer's troubles with his father and in many ways mirror my own problems. Although another reason I have problems with the song could also be because there's a %$@#$$$#@ extended high A note in opera at the bridge. :S

Ah choi of coz hes alive larz hehe =P yeah alamark the lion king hair style like kenah explosion like tat haha.. wat i really enjoyed was the amount of emotion he put in his songs.. and also not forgetting the soulful voice he has so rich so... full of controlling... oh theres another song i think that can be quite expressive in Emotions as well and thats
"Because of You" by kelly clarkson,

"Because of You i try my hardest just to forget everything,
because of You i don't know how to let anyone else in,
because of You i'm Ashamed of my life because it's empty,
because of You i Am Afraid....."

but a pity la too high the range i guy cannot sing char boh song unless i castrate myself hehe ^__^V

I love this. George Michael sang it very emotionally and gently.
