anyone seen michael angelo shred b4? or timo tolkki(stratovarius)? well, when they shred kinda funny way. i haf only seen them doing this. havent noticed other player though. see a vid of speed kills and ull get wat i mean. its like his he uses his whole arm to pick quickly. usually we juz move our wrists right? anyone shred like them? ive tried imitating but i find it uncomfortable bt i does seem easier to pick quickly. juz wondering...

thats called sweep picking, many pro guitarists here eg. Dhalif do it too...other famous personalities include John Petrucci or Paul Gilbert. If u wanna learn how to sweep pick(rake), u can watch the Michael Angelo tutorial video. Sweep picking involves hitting all the notes in one "strum" or "sweep", while the fingers on the fretboard move fast enough to catch up with the "sweeping" hand. Hope this helps.

i know wat is sweep picking. bt im talking abt shredding. like in the speed kills vid, if anyone notices, when michael angelo shred, his picking hand shifts position and he shreds with his picking hand in a vigorous motion. anyone understand wat im saying? heh...

Thats his own style. Just cos M.A. likes to pick with elbow, don't mean picking your elbow is good or you will be like him if you pick with elbow. Its all in your own preferences and skills. Best to follow as an example, then develop to your own preferences and style.

Are you, by any chance, referring to tremolo picking? The technique which is mostly utilised by many guitarists to do rapid picking of several notes?

i think he's not referring to sweep picking..more of the muscle action when that guy's picking.

hmm... so its juz his style of shredding n nothing more eh? i was juz wondering. saw both him n timo tolkki shredding like tht. they're good shredders as u guys know so thought their style of picking has sth to do wif it... i gez ill juz stick to my usual way of picking.
