Should I really get a new guitar?

Hi quite new here.. Currently I'm using a Slammer Hamer guitar with h-s-s pickups.Serves me well but its body is solidwood and its quite heavy. I can't stand and play too long or else my shoulder will hurt ( I'm just a bedroom guitarist but sometimes you need to stand and play in font of the mirror and impress yourself). So recently thinking of getting a new guitar which is lighter and has h-h or h-s-h pickups. Now the question is besides the heaviness, is a h-s-s pattern enough for me or h-h the way to go? Or changing to better pickups is enough? I play mostly rock/metal.

here's what my guitar look like.

Come on, don't tell me your changing your guitar cos it feels heavy? Your a guy don't be a wuss. It'll make you stronger! IMO the h-s-s configuration is the most versatile and can play alot of styles and genres. Maybe you should just consider changing the pups ;)

:( you made me feel like a woman. anyway part of it yes.. took me about 10mins before my shoulder hurts, after that its very uncomfortable to play.. the pickups is another, for my type of music I don't know if h-s-s is enough or more ooommmpphh with a h-h. They are stock pickups btw.[/img]

Hmm I see..the heaviness doesn't bother me that much actually..coz I don't stand and play that much. Its the sound actually. So a change of pickups would be enough huh? I really want to get a heavy sound.

What amp are you using? You probably want an amp with a bigger speaker size/a better tighter bass response. Your sound is as good only as your final link.

HAve a crappy vantage amp but I rarely use it now...I'm using korg AX100G multi effect pedal and connect directly to my headphones, sometimes plug it to my pc which I think sounds better than the amp

You probably want a better amp then. Go jam, try out different amps at guitar shops, with the same distortion pedal. You can hear the difference in bass response.

Ok...I know there are alot of experts here.. for heavy metal what kind of pickups are recommended for my h-s-s pattern? I already have plans to get better amp and effect pedals but for now the guitar 1st.

dude get a better amp. dun worry abt the guitar. u change ur pups tru ur vantage amp you wont hear a difference.

save and just change ur amp first for all you know the stock pups are decent just that your amp sucks.

The weight is a matter of getting used to it, unless you have a broken back, and believe me, I know.

tsk i wear my Lay Por for up to two hours now that painful for the shoulder i assure you.

I understand.

I jam for 4 hours with my Saber, also back ache/pain.

Anyway, I'm of the opinion that changing pups is fine actually. Really. While the cheapo amp will not let the nauces of the pickup thru, he's going for a metal tone... so METAL pups are in store for him... what nauces? Haven't you heard? You can plug a ds1 straight to computer and get heavenly tone, what more for a vantage amp?

Hmm.

I used to own a B.C. Rich Mockingbird Bronze series which pretty much weighed a tonne. What's worse (and in typical B.C. Rich style) the upper horn kept poking me in the ribs when sitting down, and the stock pickups weren't really happening for me.

So I traded it for my G-400 (plus top-up) and got myself a bass EQ pedal.. all tone and weight issues solved.

But only issue not resolved was neck-diving :?

install a bigbsy. retro coolness and weighs the back down more hurhurhru

bigbsy on a SG sexxxayyy....

Hmm.

I actually considered doing that, until I read about (and experienced) the tuning instability of a bigsby unit. It's good for mild and slow dumps but that's about it.

Plus... I'm not going to drill holes into the top of my beautiful guitar!!!

lol.. ur Hamer guitar looks lighter than my Les Paul.. anywae, changing guitar might not give you the same feel as your current one.. if it is because of the weight factor, i suggest that u go gym to do some weight lifting to train up your strength.. else, get an Ibanez SA260FM? closest i can think of comparing the configurations.

Weight can be an issue. Playing in your room is alright. If your gigging and after an hour or 2 your gonna have some problems.
