Hey there. when i wanted a drumset, yea the noise is an issue.

you can do as follows:

1)sound proof. -EXPENSIVE:)
2)buy a simple drumset and get mesheads/mutes/cymbal mutes.
3)play with rods instead of drumsticks.

actually, im not sure about Condos but for HDB, u can make as much noise as u want as long as before 10pm. after 10am or 11am. NOT SURE FOR CONDOS!

For overpowering, i guess u have to play softer la. u want ur band mates to hear ur drums and u need to hear them. All the instruments cant go blasting in a condo. Best idea, sound proof. but its ex. So, play softer by using rods or even brushes(really soft man), or use mesheads + mutes if u wanna whack hard. By this method, ur mates cant hear the actual drum sound.

Living in condos is almost near impossible to have a drumkit and not sound proofing your room let alone considering getting your entire band to rehearse in it. You will confirmed get yourself into some big problems. Condo residences are so much less tolerant then HDB's residence. Every little thing also complain... HDB residence more or less accept the fact that at certain timing its ok to make noise as long as its not after 10pm. But condos... the residence expect peace and quiet all day... if they hear people banging on something... that's it... complain like crazy.

So, consider properly!!! Sound proofing is definitely a must if you live in a condo and want to rehearse with your band or bang on the drums. If you want to rehearse with your band, its actually better to rent a studio to do it... otherwise is just not a good thing unless you sound proof your room.
