Shipping guitars from overseas

I order a lot of things from music123.com coz some stuff (small items) just ends up being a lot cheaper than actually to actually buy it from here (australia). I've always had good experiences with music123, the goods always come in under a week, and are packed pretty well.

They dont ship bigger brands where an authorised dealer to Singapore as there's a possibilities the local rep might complain to the manufacturing company.

Personally, I feel like ordering a Schecter C1-Classic from them.. Ashmore do you use credit cards or debit cards in this case? AFAIK, there are companies that do accept Debit card.

hey mattleesc

are u sure u went to music123.com? or was it musiciansfriend? musiciansfriend doesnt ship outside of US. but shdnt be an issue with music123. in fact, i just tried placing an order with them (after seeing ur post). did not encounter any problems. but i stopped at the "make payment" stage hee. no problems leh.

I have shipped in about 5 guitars for the past 2 years or so (4 from U.S. and 1 from Japan).

For guitars with dimensions close to a strat (fitted in gig bags), it would probably cost about SGD$300-350. This is via freight companies like UPS and DHL. These companies take the "dimensional weight" into considerations. That means even if the guitar is big in size but light in weight, they'll charge whichever that costs more. For guitars which are significantly heavier and bigger (and comes perhaps with a solid hard case as well) would cost about SGD$500-550 or so. As for the custom taxes, it could range from SGD$40-$90 depending on the actual shipping charges. The guitar that came from Japan was much cheaper though. If i didn't remember wrongly, the shipping charges cost about SDG$100 (and without any taxes). This was via EMS or something like that.

Hope this helps.

That means there are no additional charges besides the shipping fee?

Do any of you guys know which US site is willing to accept an overseas credit card? I tried guitartrader but they don't. Have a close friend living in US now and he's willing to bring one back for me.

Yup, that's right. No additional charges. In fact, the guitar was delivered to me like any ordinary parcel via Singpost, unlike those offered by UPS and DHL whereby they offered exact destination tracking of items, and we can even request a specific time for delivery. Of course the charges are quite different too, huh... :)

So, I guess if you're shipping any guitars from Japan, EMS should be a good choice. In terms of the time taken for the delivery, it's quite fast too. 3-7 days for EMS, i think. But mine reached me in 3 days though.

Hope this helps.

I used a credit card. as far as I know, music123 doesn't accept debit cards. But someone else should clarify that.

Don't you think it's sad that so many have to resort to buying from overseas? Makes me just wish I lived in the US.

hmm momo u bought an epi from music123.com ? Hmmz ... i tihnking of getting one from there too ... ya use normal credit card or money order ? i no credit card >21 ... any solution to recommend ?

Dear Matthew:

Epiphone will not allow dealers to export their products from the U.S.A.

If you have a US contact you could have the item shipped to them and they could ship it to you. You could also avoid import taxes by having your contact mark the package as a gift.

If you have any further questions or would like to place an order, please call me toll free at 888 590-9700 ext.1162 or 1-856-779-6300 ext.1162.
