@Fiftyseven,
if we don't make it through the auditions, do we get our $80/$150 registration fee back? also can you really guarantee the 50,000 crowd that you are claiming will be there? and you also mentioned that people from the music industry will be there...are you able to be a bit more specific...like who?

"It so happens, that we expressed our full support of the artists, here at the Stage 57"...really? Then why do we need to pay to play?

I smell a scam!

To the rest of the bands out there. You should really read this article, if you have already read it...well read it again!
http://soft.com.sg/forum/music-kopi-tiam/191071-free-gigs-anyone-its-time-make-stand-musicians.html

Stop these organizers from taking advantage of locals bands whilst they make money!! Make a stand and stop being a part of the problem. We've been conned into playing these types of gigs enough times, and none of the promises of huge crowds has ever materialised..50,000?? haha you'll be lucky if you have 8 people watching you!!

Read the article to remind yourself that you do this because of passion and you work hard to get your band sounding tight and kickass! So don't let unscrupulous organizers cheapen your dreams through false promises of huge crowds and "exposure"..i tell you that exposure can be achieved on a much larger scale online without spending a single dollar!!!!!!!!!!

Think before you pay that registration fee!

Hmmmm..... this is interesting.

Just read about this in TNP few days ago. About persons with illnesses. Where they will be playing on stage to strut their stuff. It's very noble of them to give these people a chance.

I've been to one of the drift races which happened at the F1 area last year, and boy it's really boring with nothing much to see except the races. I think that's why this year (same organiser?), they try to include bands in and more stuff to see.

I received a call last week from someone (i forgot the name... hahaha... sorry it's just me), asking my band to take part in this gig. After he had explained everything, I said... why not give it a try, as long they can accomodate my tech rider list and my engineer's requirements.

I believe this is the first for them. Not easy to create such huge scale event without any funding support. Maybe the registration fees just to cover admin cost and stuff. Can't be win-win situation for everyone. Give it a try... if it sucks... move on and don't fret about it.

Yeah.. money has always been an issue here. I work hard for my money... I really do. And being not young anymore, I got alot of responsibilities to support. It's not ours to keep anyways. Just a little contribution from everyone in the band, the amount is small.

Disclaimer:
This is just my own personal views. I'm an avid supporter to local gigs and all. Done live mixes for many local gigs big and small and personal audio engineer for some of the established bands in the metal scene. And I know how it feels like to be in the pit.

And oh yeah... I got nothing to do with the organising company at all and I don't work for them. Easy to say, I am their patron now. For some, use this to promote your EP - Album - Single if you have them. I'm very sure they will listen.

my 2 half cents thought

1stly $80 bucks per band and mininum members per band is 3 kids.one member need to fork out about $26++.
so if bands whom feel like its too costly due to other commitments such as low-paid National Service, need extra cash to feed the 3rd child, need extra cash to buy groceries- then dont take part in 'paid event'..its not necessary to whine here and there showing your poverty.

2ndly if the bands think that by playing a band they can earn fast cash by organisers tipping them after shows, then recruitment agencies can close shop and bite nails.no one will be working full time outside.all of us we decide to play band for a living.this is reality.this is singapore.

3rdly if people not deciding to take part any events, not going to any events and even anti any events organised by any singapore production.then quietly shutdown your pc and go to deep sleep.instead of setting off some wildfires in a forum.do try growing up and avoid being a loser in life:D

lets not start any fires here..if you cant afford then dont play. no one will stop you. but if you not sure or got any comments then PM or email them bah. dont create a less positive impression of the organisers towards the new dudes. though sometimes the cost is imba, but we still have a choice to sign up or not. just my 2c :D

Yup i agree that your comment was worth only 2 and a half cents!

this is what u call local support

Firstly shame on u guys spreading fires to the thread. And many many thanks to those putting out these all talk no action fires.

Why not try to audition, see how good of a musician u are?
There are no prizes, if u show the judges that ur band is worth having on the mettle games, than thatll be ur prize. If. Not work harder.

With such sponsors named in the flyers, how can it be a scam?! Even soft.con is in, the org will be sued if this aint the real thing. So shut ur tush and let the music do the talking.
