Setup: Intonation advise needed

This one.... keeps me scratching me head.

Guitar:
Squire Strat

Problem:
Intonating the B string.

Possible Variables:
Old B string. Don't have a new one on hand like RIGHT NOW.

Findings:
No matter where I move the saddle forward or backwards, the 12 fret note is always a step lower than the 12 fret harmonic.

Problems starts from 5th fret onwards where it starts to get flat.

Causes:
???????????????????

Experts please.

strange problem...

let me list a few possibilities

1) The nut slot at the B string is broken off. So the string is not sitting at the right point
2) B string pole piece of the pickup too near the B string
3) Bridge pickup could be touching the B string when u fret at the 12th fret

Can only think of 3 at the moment

if its none of the above, its most probably a bad string

if your harmonics on the string is ok, quite likely no. 3 in the list is the cause. but it may be other thing that is touching aside from just pickup. check the entire string's path when you press the 12 fret or where ever is affected.

when i first bought my ibanez rg, the last string cannot be intonated. It was fine after a string change.

The old string wasnt rusty but sounded dead already. MMust have been there for years

Nut is the elcheapo plastic one but is not broken.

2) B string pole piece of the pickup too near the B string

Pickups are lowered lower than normal.

3) Bridge pickup could be touching the B string when u fret at the 12th fret

bridge pickups are low as well.

Its probably the BAD STRING.

GC, I'd probably be seeing you soon. This guitar have some uneven frets past 12 fret. Let me get the fricken basics done first before deciding if this guitar needs a professional touch and as always... KC's nut job.

I just hope it IS the problem and not a weird one of those things that defies reasons.

The fret slots are probably inaccurate. In your case of the squier, the rest of the strings intonate correctly, hence it can't be inaccurate fret slots.

Anyway, this 'carpenter' guy is no longer building guitars. He is now promoting the 'arts' in malaysia, buidling ethnic instruments.

The fret slots are probably inaccurate. In your case of the squier, the rest of the strings intonate correctly, hence it can't be inaccurate fret slots.

Well for the fact that the rest of the strings on the "carpenter's" neck could be intonated but not that particular D string. It always seems off range. I got it replaced with a new one.

Its really one of those things man.

Yeah.... building non precise non exacting specs instruments should be his strengths. This guy ahhh... he know how to capitalise on his strengths!

Peterson si relay true bypassed right? DL4 also si relay true bypassed one.

Thinky the relay true bypasses somehow don't seem too good like that, no idea why.

maybe the mechanical relay switch contacts have that 1 ohm contact resistance and with that 10pF contact to contact inherant capacitance it will form a RC circuit that will drain the TONE to ground...
