setting on danelectro coolcat CM1 ?

quinn, you've gotta start using your ears to do settings and experiment with what sounds best.

can I say this? and can you accept this?

There is no one singular "POST HARDCORE" sound. Period

All sounds can be used for "POST HARDCORE" just as well for any other genre of music. it just depends on how you wanna apply the sounds and use your imagination.

Understand how the effects works. There are tons of website out there to explain what the knob does to the sound. Hope this will help you find the sound that you want.

Max your mid, max your treble, max your bass, VIOLA, post hardcore! (and whatever (insert something)core tone you have in mind)

At least that's what core sounds like to me anyway.

CM1 IS a Metal Distortion. The only setting that will make it unmetal is when you have the volume all the way down (basically no sound).

Apart from that, it's metal in any setting. you have the knobs all at 12 o'clock, it's metal. You have the knobs at 2, 10 and 1 o'clock, it's metal. You have the knob at max it's DEFINITELY metal.

You should take your time to explore what each knob does. Just listen to the sound that comes out as you adjust your pedal. After that, adjust your pedal AND amp setting. Be patient and play around until you find what you really really like. Once you found it, THAT will be your "post hardcore" sound.

ok i'm just repeating what most websites out there are stating but just cos you seem quite clueless on the knobs on the CM1 which are pretty similar to all those multi knobbed distortion pedals.

Set your bass/mids/treble in the middle position. gain mid position too or 3/4. to taste. volume should be set around the same volume when you bypass the pedal. No nasty volume jump that way.

palm mute(if that is the post hardcore way of playing). How's the chug? Not enough chug? add a bit more bass. How's the clarity and sizzle? Too buzzy? Reduce treble. Not clear enough? Add treble.

Mids. That is one of the most important knob in all multiple knobs distortion pedals. Keep chugging. Reduce the mids to minimum. Do you instantly hear metallica? thats not post hardcore but every self respecting guitarist would at least heard of their music once. Turn the mids up. slowly. Hear the difference in the tones. Does it sound fuller now? Turn it up a lot more. Does it sounds like a distortion with a bad flu?

There you go. Experiment. Remember when doing settings, a little goes a long way. The mistake every noob guitarist does is to turn up the gain max and expects instant fireworks and fans blowing from the floor with them posing the rock god pose. Been there done that.

Have fun with the pedal.
