Sell a 2nd Hand Item for a Brand New Price?

So 2nd hand goods will not fetch 1st hand prices, unless the buyer is really desperate for it (or buyer blur like sotong, never do his research first).

As long as something is 2nd hand (and not rare), it should only fetch up to 60% of the retail price. If the item is really, truly pristine, then maybe the seller can priced it about 70% of retail price, buyer willing.

bro thats not quite true. i copy n paste what i said in a similiar thread.

if u're into crazy high end boutique stuff, u should know that many, many of these pedals actually sell for MUCH MORE than the original brand new buying price, even when they are USED. for example buying a brand new pedal from the builder himself can cost 400USD, whereas if u go to ebay, u see them selling for 900USD. doesnt make sense right? but ppl still buy! why? there's a demand for such stuff. they rather pay the extra 500USD to get something that maybe, is no longer in production, or has a 4year waiting list and they feel its justified that 500USD is worth paying extra to skip 4 years of waiting for a brand new one.

It depends n how much a product appreciates or depreciates over time.

For example, I'm selling a PS2, bought when the slim first came out. Over time, it depreciates cause everyone's got one and no one else to buy mine. I'm forced to sell it at 10% cause no one wants to buy it and I really need to get rid of it.

But if I'm selling a really good bottle of wine made in 1956 (I'm no wine expert so I'm just stating examples), it would appreciate in time because the wine would mature, taste better, and people are willing to buy it at 200 to 300% of what I originally got it for

I know they're not good examples but I'm just trying to say that the 2nd-hand value of the product depends on a few factors, not just condition

I think another example would be the korg pitchblack.
somehow when it was first released at city music, a lot of people snapped them up. many people gased for it but due to lack of stocks at the shop, quite a number of softies turned here to look for one. There was a couple of softies who had managed to sell the used tuner at retail price and some still made a little profit from it from the high demand.

Some people will pay more to satisfy their gas as long as they are comfortable with it.
Nothing wrong with it and More power to them for being able to do so.
