I'm really pissed off with these people who sell their 2nd hand fx at a brand new price....

eg: a 2nd hand SD1 for $70 when I can get a brand new for the same price. grrrrrr:mad:

Get what I mean?

What's your opinion?

It's my f#$(ing opinion... I don't care if some greedy (or ignorant) sellers at Buy and Sell Thread will get offended... Actually, I've PMed some of them.

Please let me know your views....

it is the seller's right to price these items, after all it is his item. if the buyer is not happy, thn he can just go buy it somewhere else.

its the same old same old...as usual, comfortable? buy. not comfortable? say bye bye... :)

it simply tells their character.....typical singaporean style...

kiasu......not willing to lose....buy at $70.00....use already...still wanna sell at $70.00...

also..a little money minded..

marlonmm, there is no need for you to get angry. How much the seller wants to price the item is totally up to him. This is a free market, we let the market decides.

guitarlover, if i got something at zero cost, ie. a gift, how much should I price it if I want to sell/give it away?

To me I feel very uncomfortable with this. Yes it's the seller's right to priced the items but it does affect the others.

1. it is spoiling the 2nd hand market especially trading items.
- I have a couple of past experiences where i offered some guy to trade his guitar with me.
I can't really remember the actual price for our items but the story goes like this :

I was selling my guitar at 550(retail ard 900) and offered the guy to trade with his guitar. He was selling his guitar for 650(retail ard 700). And this is what the guy replied me
"U selling your guitar at 550 and i'm selling mine at 650, how much u willing to top up?"

so i replied
"based on the retail price, actually mine is higher than urs. Honestly, I do expect a slight top up of 50 bucks from you"

then he replied
"Find ur luck elsewhere lowballer"

My jaw almost dropped, then i replied
"good luck"

2. Those who doesn't know much about the market value might buy it.
- Imagine a boy that getting his first guitar and saw a nice pic of the guitar on soft buy and sell and saving all his pocket money just to buy something overpriced.

Just my view tho :D

haha! i take back the grrrr:mad:

seriously though, I think that the only reason for the price to go up is if it's a vintage piece or a collectors item.

Let's compare the price of a can of Coke.

NTUC - $0.50
Kopitiam - $1.20
Pub - $6.00

The seller can price it at any amount. It is up to the buyer to make the purchase.

James, your coke analogy confuses me... Your point is from a wholesale to retailers/services perspective. I think this would apply more brand new items at sweelee vs ebenex vs g77. etc.

My point here is the depreciation value of a used item.

BTW, you've given me idea for my next WTS to do deals at pub! haha!

i would definitely still sell it cheaper then the actual cost price. i've made no lost, plus it would be hard to find a buyer even tho it's brand new/unused if it was the same price as brand new. because people may lie. so if it's at the same price i'd rather get it brand new from a shop.

to ts, it's really up to the seller, but it's their loss. if they're lucky they get buyers. sometimes it may be hard to get that exact item at shops, the buyer may know that and thus, use that chance to push the price up.

Well, just think about it. I can choose to sell my items at whatever price I want. It is up to the buyers to do their research, scout around for the best deal, check out 1st hand retail price, etc before they buy it from me.
If you find the price is reasonable and buy it, it would be just your luck if you could find a better deal after you bought it. Both parties have already agreed to buy/sell it at a certain price, and have to honour that deal, unless the good is not in 100% working order, etc
Strangely, I don't see anyone complain when they bought a deal that was way under its 2nd hand retail value. They won't bother to top it up whatsoever. They'll just think "Hahaha I got a good deal. Sucks to be the seller who could have charged more"

My $0.02

sigh... yet again.

Supply/Demand plays a part too.

If I bought a vintage 54' strat back in the day for say... $1000 dollars. Would i sell it below that today?

Some items also appreciate over time.

On the retail pricing thing, thats not the best way to decide top up/pricing. why? Because some items depreciate more over time. If the demand for that is low, it will then be worth less in the market, likewise if its in high demand, it will be worth more. (Still depending on the supply)

Actually, there's no fixed price for 1st hand items. Like for your case, the pedal is priced at $70 and it's second hand. Do you even know how much the seller got the pedal for? Can you confirm that the seller got it for $70?

So if the buyer doesn't know the original price, it is quite subjective to judge the seller and say that the seller is greedy and things like that.

Like for me, i am selling a pair of pickups. I got it from a second hand shop and it was second hand too. I bought it at a first hand price. So to the buyers viewing it, they feel that it should be priced at third hand price. But since i got it at a first hand price, I don't want to lose too much money.
