Seeking Assistance/Advice on over drilled strap button! (Thanks mate!)

Hey guys! Just recently acquired this lovely Gibson Les Paul Jr and realised the strap button over at the bottom was over-drilled. I was wondering if there was a way to fix it up? There's a mild paint chipping due to this too. Does anyone have any knowledge or expertise and advice to share! I'm open to all ideas!!! Doubt this minor cosmetic issue would affect the tone though i worry about placing future strap locks there.

Oh don't worry, i did contact the retailer, and given its a 2012 model and the last available I didn't want to return it for store credit, the staff there were excellent and customer service so it did help tons. Got 50AUD off for my troubles though i hope the fixing up won't cost more than that.

U can put those soft cotton. Usually most guitars have those. Some sort of soft white cotton so the strap button doesnt scratch the wood.

I had a similar problem with one of my strats, but it was more because the strap button sunk into the wood after a bad drop. You could do what Satrionic suggested, or get a small washer that'll fit into the depression and bump the button back up too. It should also help stop it from going in any further!

^ what he said.

or i might just take out the strap button, put in a few toothpicks, and then screw it back in for a nice tight fit.

With this method, use wood glue to form a bond between the toothpicks and the wood itself. Once it's dry you can screw in the strap button and the screw should bite. I also use a felt washer between the button and the wood.

I tried removing the screw and even after that, the strap button is still stuck in the guitar. No amount of wiggling and pulling would budge it from being stuck and sunk into the body of the guitar. Jesus, i think they actually dropped the guitar... it ain't possible for any sane person to drill so deep into the guitar that the strap button got stuck in such a manner.

I believe even if I were to repair it, it would require some more of wood plug to mend the crater that's been formed by the button being sunk so deep.
