Search for 7-strings

Never saw them have this model, but please do contact them availability...
A lot of peoepl over at sevenstring.org bought one and modded it, but it's only available in red though...

hey there, I'm on the look out for a piezo 7 also.

budget could be higher though, but is there even a production range 7 with piezo out there? If I'm not wrong the RG7CST is floating around somewhere...

How much are the ghost pickups btw?.

Chris Broderick playing an RG7321 i think. That's a midi pickup right?

Marksman: With the cheap price of the Washburn X27, you can always use the extra cash to mod it...
But the RG7321 is also around your budget, but you won't have much funds left to fiddle around with the guitar, provided that you do have some left... But give this Ibanez a try...

Rossie: yea, the 7321 is a fantastic player, and for its price, it's really good.

Only thing is that it has fixed bridge.

yeah it is, but unfortunately it has 22 frets instead of 24 frets. Still, it's a good guitar for its price.

Getting slightly out of topic, anyone reckon it's a good idea to keep a database of 7-strings? =P

"I seriously wish Ibanez didnt discontinue RG2027 (Mahogany bodied 7-string RG Prestige with Piezo/Double Edge Pro). From what I read on other forums, it seems that it's one of the more well-liked units out there. But I guess it just doesnt have enough demands out there."

ah correction. the RG2027 is actually using a lo-pro double edge 7 bridge. its basically a lo pro edge bridge with 7 piezo saddles. it was on sale just about a month ago but I've traded it away with another guitar. pity cos I really dont have enough money on me to keep it. I'd have plenty of time to regret when I enlist to army in september anyway.

if you manage to even stumble upon one, grab it. its very thick sounding thats for sure. the B string isnt muffled at all. the all notes ring out very clearly. I dont know if its the magic of Mahogany wood but hell its a good axe.

I've compared it with my teacher's RG1527. the neck profile of the RG2027 is rounder even though they mention on the website that they are using the same wizard 7 neck. well, unless you tell me that there is a difference between wizard 7 prestige and wizard 7 :? .

anyway, the next best thing to RG7CST is the RG2027. just different pickups, no flamed maple top and no ebony fretboard. the thing about 7 string guitars here in Singapore is that it lacks a market. anyhow, sevenstring.org is a great site to go to for those taking up 7 string guitars.

No point keeping a database of 7 strings here: too few in the community. For Fender strats - sure, you can start a worship shrine here.

Note Marksman: like what you said the RG7321 is a "fantastic player" but only in relation to its PRICE. I've played an RG7621, the MIJ one and to me, that guitar smoked the indo/korean 7321s... gotta put things in perspective - a lot of things out there are so-called "fantastic" only because of their price point, more than their real quality.

That said...

A couple of things to note: What string guage will you be playing on the 7 string? I found with a .9s set, the low B string was pathetically flubby. Hopeless for drop A tunning (which IMO is THE 7 string tuning, not the standard B tuning) but if you use 10s, its fine. Or replace that low B string with a thicker string in a .9 set... but that would change the feel.

And... 22 frets vs 24? Look at your current guitars, how much time do you spend playing around that area? No? When you play your 24 fretter. do you bend a lot at the 24th fret? No? Then just go for a 22.
This 22 vs 24 thing is sometimes... just... for the sake of "more".

Finally... I think 7 strings should be in extended scale. 25.5" is ... too loose lah.

Bucky Pizzarelli inspired?

Anyway, about that 22 vs 24 fret thingy, for me, I can't really play anything less than a 24 fret guitar. Most of my stuff usually goes up to the 24th fret, sometimes I need the F# too, and the cover songs that my band play also need a full two octave fretboard (ie. DT)... I guess each to his own...

Ah Rossie, then you are "justified" in having to opt for a 24 fretter.

I don't go that high usually and I've been a 22 fretter forever plus I want that single-coil-in-the-harmonic-sweet-spot tone thing so... there.

Like you said "to each his own" but gotta make sure that each does know what's really his own... so to speak.

Yala... Just gotta get that out... Heehee...

Yeah, I notice that sweet spot too... When I play one the 23rd and 24th fret, it sounded not as "big" as playing on the 20th~22nd frets...
But don't know whether is it because of my guitar isn't as well made or not...

Actually the sweet spot is due to the positioning of the neck pickup and its more apparent when using single coils... not where you play on the neck. On 24 fret necks, your neck pup is past the harmonic node which would have been at the 24th fret so the 22 frets have their neck pup at that harmonic node. It can be heard on humbuckers too but a little harder.

A nice point of comparision would be... say... Satriani's neck pup tone to Vai's neck pup tone.

Marksman: yeah it is, but unfortunately it has 22 frets instead of 24 frets.

'unfortunate' is a personal encounter. there are many lethal players out there embracing 22 or lesser frets.
