*bump*
Just wanted to update some stuff I've discovered about this pedal.
On the tight setting, when you roll off the EQs and boost the mids, it can oddly sound pretty much like an OD pedal. It sounds pretty lo-fi for my ears, which is surprising. This shows how much sweep the treble knob has.
On the loose setting, I always had problems getting tone dynamics off the bridge pickup. The neck and the bridge sorta sound similar through this. But I recently did something that made me wonder why I didn't think of this earlier on?
Most recordings we hear are already mixed well, and the guitar chug has bass and warmth. But we don't really know what the guitar itself sounds like without the rest of the band. So, when I eq-ed this pedal to sound like my fav chug, I got the rhythm tones, but the lead tones always sounded like a fat tuba.
Then it hit me: roll the bass knob off! I tried it, and immediately, it lost a lot of body. It was still big and loose, but without the girth it had previously. And my dynamics were coming though.
Also helping are a good dose of boosted mids in this case. Opens up the tone very well. Though I wish there were 2 mid knobs on this one rather than just this single mid level and concentric mid freq sweep knob. A low mids and High Mids control would be nice. Like in some amps.
The Hardwire range is odd. I've been playing with the pedals for almost a year now, and everytime I sit down to play around with the pedals, I discover something new... Sort of like a vast RPG computer game where you always discover a new secret everytime you play it again.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around this metal pedal to get it to do more than just one trick, and I think I'm headed in the right direction now. I've already sorted out the CM2 and the SC2, but this one seems to need a different approach.
Will update further when I find other stuff.
