Schecter Hellraiser c1-fr or Ibanez S Prestige s5470f?

Hi guys i've been looking around for my second guitar quite a bit. I found out that i like super strats and versatility of tone. I'm currently considering between which guitar to buy (title).

Ibanez S Prestige has 24 frets, Zr tremolo which is a good licensed floyd rose and has jumbo frets. It has a bolt on neck. I'm not sure about the price in singapore. And is there coil tap?

Schecter Hellraiser c-1 fr has 24 frets, original floyd rose and has extra jumbo frets. I have never played extra jumbo frets before. I've heard good reviews on the active emgs and they have coil tap. It has a set neck. Is a set neck more comfortable to play while playing the higher frets?

I've read lots of reviews on these two guitars and both said they are very versatile, but the hellraiser is marketed as a metal guitar. I play anything from blues to heavy metal and would like a clean sound and good distortion.

If it helps, i'm probably going to get a marshall dsl or tsl half stack with my second guitar.

Please share your opinions about these two guitars. Probably won't be able to get another guitar after this for quite a loooong while so i have to make a good choice

The ZR tremolo returns to pitch quite accurately. Extra jumbo frets aren't necessarily better than jumbo frets. it depends on your preferred playing feel. Set necks are reputed to have better sustain then bolt-ons, and schecter's set necks will allow you to play up to the highest registers with ease. Also, the EMG's in it sound surprisingly good on clean, cosidering it's supposed to be a 'metal' guitar. in this case, i would recommend the Schecter. have fun playing it. oh, if you do get the schecter, don't forget to post pics up on the Schecter thread, i'm sure they would love you there.

Thanks for your kind opinion. But can i confirm if the S prestige has coil tap? I couldn't find any definite answers.

Yuppsh, according to the ibanez website. But it's not a push-pull pot coil tap, it taps it using the 5-way switch. So using the 5-way switch, you get neck hum, neck split+mid single, mid single, mid single+bridge split, and bridge humbucker.

The EMGs - might overdrive some effects too much so... I wouldn't like that. Which is the most annoying thing about EMGs so far. Anyway, you can google up on EMGs.

Evidence is inconclusive and besides, famous, trustworthy builders have mentioned that in their experience, set neck has less sustain. That said, the neck joint is but one element in the Sustain Equation. Ever heard that a pickup set too close to the strings can rob sustain? I'd worry about the sum of the parts.


Ibanez uses their All Access Neck Joint. Between the setneck of the schecter and the slim access of the ibanez - the ibanez might win this.


Coil splitting is a simple modification. No need to have it on board, can be easily wired.

Honestly, the best way to make a decision's still to go down to the guitar shop and play both of them for some time, and decide which one you prefer to play, and which one sounds better to you.

The Ibanez AANJ makes playing the upper frets really easy. The heel fits perfectly into the contours of your hand, allowing you reach the upper frets comfortably. I have no experience with Schecter set necks, but if they are anything like the Les Paul neck joints, the AANJ would win hands down.

I'm not sure what shop carries both of them. G77 has Ibanezes and Schecters, but the models in stock vary. Swee Lee should have the Ibanez in stock, go check out the Sims drive outlet.

You biased, myopic, paranoid, no-guts coward you...:mrgreen: Going the safe route by going for replacable bits... How many other guitarists do you know can abuse a guitar the same way you do when they play? Hell, I can't even remember if I've EVER broken anything on a guitar other than a string in the past 20 years of playing...

I'd get the Ibanez simply because it's got better resale value than the Schecter... It IS a Prestige after all, which is MIJ.

the s5470 may still have sustain issues YET to be addressed by Ibanez...check the ibanez forums for this.

Well it is true that there are some minor issues with the S series in terms of their hardware.....but the funny thing is it is still a very sleek, nice and comfy guitar to play or shred.....nice fat tone with loads of sustain due to the mahogany body and the bolt on neck isn't an issue down here with very gd access to all the frets, gd return to pitch and very stable whammy system, and very versatile too (from blues to metal territory) due to the H-S-H config and 5 way switching (if u don't dig the stock PUs, by all means go for Dimarzio or others).....in the end it's personal perference i guess cause i am a S series user....somehow schector guitar has never really grown on me especially those with EMGs......although i have tried and heard nice tones from the C-1 without the EMGs.
