scalloping the fretboard

do u recommend scalloping the fretboard if the guitar does not come with a scalloped fretboard?
n also, wher to get it done well at a reasonable price...

On certain necks, eg Ibanez Wizard 2, Superwizards (dud) , they're rather thin. Scalloping can destabilize the entire structure of the neck and in many cases, break, YES BREAK. The neck.

Conversely, when done on a regular strat copy, the scalloping do function, but after awhile, the neck , too , gave way.

If a guitar does not come with scallops, it is not wise to scallop as certain necks are not meant to be scalloped. Even should there be a dire need, only scallop certain frets at most. Scalloping the whole neck is not only cost/time consuming but dangerous to the neck's integrity.

If you really decide to go ahead with this, do get a renowned or extremely skilled luthier to do it for you. Do note. Scalloping does not make you play faster, shred, or whatever. Its actually even harder to play and the bends , though exotic, are PAINFUL.

Well. Hope I didn't miss anything, and have helped.

Mooooooooooo.

painful, at first, but it does allow the player more speed, at least it does for me

If you're looking to have a better overall control of your playing, and like scallops in general, you could have it done. What guitar do you have that you wish to scallop?

I got my guitars scalloped at Guitar Connection for about 300 plus. Can't remember the exact figure. They did a good job of it.

Also, think about how deep you want your scallops to be. Between a shallow scallop and deep scallop, the only difference is cosmetics. The latter being the better looking of the two. Functionality wise, a deep scallop doesn't offer you anything more than a shallow scallop. And since scalloping does weaken the neck, and if you do scallop, it'll be wiser to opt for a milder scallop job. And in the event where a refret is necessary, a mild scallop would have less risk of wood chipping during the process of removing and replacing the frets.

yeah most likely i'll scallop the highest 4 frets only(4 closest to bridge pickup)...cant afford the whole neck anywei  ...

any luthiers to recommmend?it's $100 4 4 frets,$300 4 whole neck at guitar workshop...

well... its prob your personal experience. If that were true on a whole, then all shredders would want a scalloped guitar.

Truth is... more often than not, there is no difference in speed.

SEE THATS SCALLOPED NECK.

hmmm.... IMHO....

on a regular Fender type neck, lets not talk about ultra thin shredder's neck... but that too with proper measurements is possible.

scalloping the fretboard will not affect the structural integrity of the neck. The main bulk of support comes from the ahem... neck and not the fretboard.

However with over zealous scalloping, you may soon find that you'll be soon looking at the truss rod cavity.

IF you have a guitar thats not worth much... which i assume you do cos you did mentioned that in your DIY spray painting post and you're handy with some files and sandpaper... and you must posess some common sense as well(this is required for any DIY jobs)... I'd say go for it bro...

If scallop not nice, go try oyster or abalone... hum is not too bad too.

i gives you this bite feel when u play.. like a more stronger gripping feeling that you can just squeeze the notes out.. i dunno how to explain further lol..
