Rusty strings!

aloho ppl,

i am very vey annoyed with my guitar strings rusting after like a week and a half. especially the treble strings (im using fender 0.009s,pure nickle wound ones) and the guitar becomes unplayable.

i need some recommendations for long alsting strings

PS:i play mostly metal and rock

maybe u can try to apply string oil, and wipe ur strings after u play to prolong longer life. and try those DR ones at davis. i use them, they're better than fender strings imo.

hate to say it but the fender strings never last long. Try going for other brands. G77 is having a promo on curt managan strings.

fender strings?i never had a good impression of fender strings..the rust could probably come from the sweat from ur fingers..hmm do u wipe ur strings each time after playing? :roll:
hmm for strings i would recommend DR coated ones from davis too..longer lasting IMO

I'm not very sure on this. But I think pure nickel wound rust faster.

Dr $7.50 at davis standard non-coated ones should do it. Actually all depends on your sweat and how often you clean after you play etc etc. Try out different brands lor see which one works for you.

I'd always loved the longevity of elixirs. Pretty expensive stuff though. Whatever the case, it's best to change ASAP once it starts to rust. My instructor's finger swelled to the size of the adjacent fingers and itself put together after getting cut and infected by the rust. Thankfully the operation did him good or else i won't be playing guitar today...

How many of you guys actually just play through the rust. If so, isn't it uncomfortable and messy with all those rust on your fingers?

why don't u try the GHS fast fret.
I helps increase my string life by a little.

i guess you are the one who's fingers sweat a lot.

I do play with the rust at times (lazy to change ar)
not to the extend of extreme rust.
Just have to get use to it. and u know what?
after i play, the rust at the pickups area are gone, due to the picking. :lol:

most important is to ALWAYS wipe down your strings when you finish playing

a reminder, ALWAYS wipe down your strings when you put your axe down

P.S. ALWAYS wipe down your strings when you stop playing for the day

oh yeah, if you don't play for a few days also, your strings will also rust

+1000 this is really important for preservation of string life... a tissue will do.

hmm i dont wipe my strings..could be one of the minor reasons to why they rust so fast..but i think i've gottena really REALLY bad impression of fender strings now..anyone care to prove me wrong?

the last set i used was some brand called ALICE i think..they were awesome..they lasted 3 months!! WITHOUT ANY RUSH..whoa

but it was a present from a friend so i dont know where he got it from.


hmm the next set of strings i ahve are also fenders.. i kiasu then go and buy 2 sets from sweelee lol *regrets*

next time shall go to davis or G77 to buy my strings

any specific set of strings i shud try out thats not too expensive?

I never wipe my guitar Maybe i tried wiping with a wrong material, last time i got a habit of wiping after playing, i find that it rust even faster, especially on the saddles. As for now, i simply just dont wipe, maybe i always keep it inside my bag after playing, i rarely got rusty strings, except darken strings, but i do change once every 2 months

haha im now using d'addardio strings cuz i see cheap..although they do not rust fast, but they sound pretty dead after playing for some time. For me, my strings just "die" within 2 weeks of playing so i think im gonna change to curt managan strings..

yeah.. heard prettu good stuff about the curt managan strings.. but yup, i absolutely cannot play with rust.. totally spoils the mood...

and rust can be dangerous cozz when ur doing fast slides it can cut ur hand..learnt it the hard way

how much are the curt managan strings? are they any good?
