Slow the rusting process.
This is what i do to slow the rusting process:
1) Apply StringLife (liquid polymer) coating after the tin coat from the plain strings came off (usually within first week), then apply the 2nd time when you feel required - NOT EVERYDAY AS RECOMMENDED, THAT'S WASTING.
2) Wipe strings after playing to remove skins
3) Wrap the neck and the strings with a towel after playing.
Fast Fret will slow rust, by a bit, IMHO, more useful for removing squeaks.
and Polymer coated srtings are just too expensive.
So far my plain strings will turn dark, and snap before rust.
