Our scene is too tiny for that- if you crush the few who follow their dreams because they're not up to your expectations, you crush the rest before they even dare to dream.

Basically, how is dissing a local music video going to aid anything? We can all find faults with them if we choose to; but whatever for? If you don't like it, don't listen to it or watch it. 8)

People fall. People criticise. So people learn from other people's mistakes. So people can learn to become better.

By being carebear and only give the good comments, you are giving people false illusions about their stuff. The local scene needs HONEST opinions.

This is not about dissing a local band, but how the video will affect the band in a negative way.
If my very own Singaporean reaction to seeing a local music video was a WTH, you can be sure what the rest of the world/region will think.

Its carebears like some people who themselves see LOCAL music as a separate entity from the WORLD that makes the growth of the scene slow. Stop giving excuses like OH ITS GOOD ENOUGH FOR LOCAL MUSIC WHAT. The world is getting smaller and smaller whether you like it or not.

Common people support local talent!!!! Muahahahaz

Oh well i agree its not that fantastic but hey, how many of us have a music video up on MTV?

Cheer for these guys people!!!! At least afew bands are moving out of the "local scene", lets get our gear together and get out there with them with full force!!!!

It would have been better if the hot half naked woman is on top the bed touching the half naked singer.

Sex sells now a days.

Honestly, it is a little funny seeing Levan prancing around half naked =p That's not my idea of erm 'hot', actually. :X But still. Its a good try. It looks pretty okay to me. Not fantastic, not awfully great, but still good. First try mah ;) Give chance la. If their 2nd or 3rd video still sucks then you can throw the guys outta the window. Lol.

i agree the choregraphy could have been much better. in my opinion, the timing of the changes doesn't even fit the tempo of the song well... can't blame the band - i can foresee that a good choregrapher could have salvaged even these video segments to make it look better.

visa: self-appointed spokesman for Ronin? :D

I support any local music that turns me on, man :D I love the Suns too, and I'm interested in seeing where WGB is going.

Criticising alone isn't going to make the local scene better either. Nobody will improve from cuddling one another and telling each other that they rock, but nobody's going to improve if everyone is telling one another that they suck either. We'll just get spiteful.

This is not about dissing a local band, but how the video will affect the band in a negative way.

How can taking a step in a new direction affect a band in a negative way? It's like scolding a child for spilling milk on himself the first time he tries to drink. An attempt is an attempt. You applaud the kid's effort. Are you going to be a cynic and tell the kid "Look, you suck, there are kids everywhere who can drink empty a vodka bottle and you're spilling milk on yourself"?

If my very own Singaporean reaction to seeing a local music video was a WTH, you can be sure what the rest of the world/region will think.

Nope, you can't. You are not an accurate representation of the rest of the world, however highly you regard yourself and your opinion. The only way we can find out for sure what non-Singaporeans think when they see Ronin is when non-Singaporeans see Ronin, which I believe they will pretty soon.

Its carebears like some people who themselves see LOCAL music as a separate entity from the WORLD that makes the growth of the scene slow.

I agree. I also think that hatebears who themselves see LOCAL music as something to stomp down on just because it isn't as developed as some parts of the rest of the WORLD contribute.

You're telling our children they suck if they're learning to walk because the kids in america and europe are doing the 100m with spikes and starter blocks. If you don't let your children even walk, how are they ever going to run, let alone complete with international sprinters?

Similarly, if you're going to stomp the local music scene, how are you going to ever expect it to compete with the international scene?

Stop giving excuses like OH ITS GOOD ENOUGH FOR LOCAL MUSIC WHAT. The world is getting smaller and smaller whether you like it or not.

I agree again that mothergooses who praise local musicians for nothing are a negative influence on our local scene. I'm sure we can all agree on that.

But have you thought about how WE, you and I, affect the local scene, as Singaporeans?

Anybody can put something down.

But it takes support, patience and a genuine passion to help to grow something in (relatively) hostile ground.

madmonkeykungfu - i agree with you.

I'm not putting Ronin down or their efforts. I applaud their efforts.. they've gone a long way in such a short time.

However, I do feel the video could've been better.

Being in a band, I would appreciate all comments, good or bad. It'll only make me better.

Kudos to Ronin for all their efforts and making it this way.

Cheers!

just to let you know Madmonkeykungfu is not just one person. :)

we play the devils advocate because we know there are enough carebears here.

Andplease be informed what we posted is a toned down polite version of what some of us feel.

if we keep doing it, we can only get better.

what we need here is constructive comments, being extreme on either side of the scale doesnt help move things forward.

local musicians are taking baby steps to catch up with other more developed markets like US/UK/TW/HK or even Malaysia. Somehow, the creative industry in these countries are also very developed. Art direction, film production, artiste development and consumer market.
