ok..i am not much of a gear person..

but i have been eyeing this guitar synthesizer recently. The Roland GR-20.
it's cool.

any lobang?
swee lee sells it at $945, in which if i do have the money to buy..but after that i will have to make do with bread and water everyday.

how ah?

save the money and look out for 2nd hand GR-33 in the used market. The GR-20 is the slight simplified version of the GR-33, but with some updated
internal software stuff. Basically, a lot of the stuff in it, are still the same, even if different, it should not be too drastic in affecting the sound too much. Its a really useful effect if use in the right situation..

yeah, lots of the patches in it, other then the guitar ones, are really fun and inspiring. And best of all, it will make everyone look up and trying to identify who is playing the tabla, angklung or even sax..

haha.....it certainly made my hair stand when i tried it..
GR-33 aye? does it still simulate the same sounds as the GR-20?
or will i save a lot of money by jst getting a keyboardist?

Never tried the GR-20 before, but from the way it is, it shud not be to far away from the gr-33. The best way to utilise the GR is still thru a full range speaker. Through the guitar amp, it wasnt too bad either, imho.

Hehe, i have no experience with a keyboard, so cant comment on that. The GR series need a GK midi pickup. The fixing of it on the electric guitar might make it look weird and the position of the pickup directly under the string, it will hinder where you place your picking hand. Palm muting will definitely be affected and thus some adjustment need to be made on the placement of your palm.

If you dont want to fix up the GK pickup, roland has got those GK ready strat where the midi pickup is fixed on the pickguard internally. Another way, if you are serious bout using the guitar synth, is to get a brian moore guitar with the midi output ready.

yeah...the GR-20 comes with that pickup thingy. i have a les paul epiphone and the guy told me that the pickup fits nicely onto it.
(dunnno whether he was tellin me that jst to get me to buy it..hehehe)
anyways..yeah that weird pickup thingy has to be there..
but damn..i jst wanna hear the synths and strings...there's also the tabla and sitar effects.. mouth watering man...

the GK pickup should be able to fix up on most guitar, LP, strat etc. Shouldn't be a problem.

Hehe, lots of the thing in there are great sounding and can be further adjusted to get some realistic sound. The factory settings are actually not bad either.

shouldnt be a prob abt fixing the pick up man.... it is sure save a lot by getting a keyboardist la... but with tat gk stuff will make it looks more interesting!!!
u will turn out to be like morello+vai for fatskunks
