RG321 or 350?

Would you rather get the RG321 or the RG350DX?
Without consideration of the price.

It all depends. an Rg321 has a fixed bridge, while aRg350 has a floating bridge. Do you really need a floating bridge? Can you cope with the hassle of maintenance and high cost should any part fault? If not, then the Rg321 is your best bet.

Chances are, if you're new, you won't need a floating bridge-type guitar.

I'm more in love with the RG321 (mainly because I just bought one lol  ), but for newbies I think a fixed bridge would serve better. Easy to maintain mah ;)

Yeah, but the thing is if there's going to be a sale, I want to get something more expensive. I mean, take advantage of the sale la.
I am keen on the 321, but say i've now a budget of 900, what ibanezes are there? As in the RG series.
Sale also headache, haha.

P.s: yeah and anyway guys, thanks for all the help. Really appreciate it.

budget of 900 is quite good alr lah, considering its after sales.. i'm expecting the next Swee Lee sale to be at least 30% so maybe you can afford something from the prestiges? depends on what you need.. fixed vs floating, PUs, blah blah

If you don't really need a floating bridge equipped guitar, take a look at the Ibanez SA and SZ series models, the SA has a SAT bridge which is more than adequate for whammying provided you don't abuse it much . The SZ has a Gilbratar III fixed bridge which IMO is a really good design.

Phil - if you have a good budget, consider getting a good amp to complement your guitar. You guitar sounds only as good as what u run it through.

in terms of sound and quality, which is the better? the 321 or the 350? Thanks thor, but i need a new guitar. current one's worked so bad it's falling apart.

321 is mahoghany, 350 is basswood.

ive tried both, my 321 and evilgtr's 350. Well in my opinion, both are jus as good/bad, though the 350 is slightly more ex.

changing the strings on the 350 can be a real pain in the ass.

importantly, do u need a floating bridge at all? If not, buy the 321 and use the balance $$ to buy a urself a good amp, tada!!!!

well, i happened to notice you want to buy the most expensive guitar, but a guitar being more expensive doesn't mean that it's better. In fact, it could be far from the truth. There's a lot of threads in this forum for you to research on the guitars - RG321 and RG350 guitar reviews, the occasional threads that come out, the Gear News 2005 section too. Just do a Search on the forum and you can find out a lot.

To answer your question, there isn't a better sound or quality between the RG321 and RG350. Both use the Ibanez INF pickups. The features are different - among other differences, the RG321 is a H-H configuration with a fixed bridge, while the RG350 is H-S-H with a floating tremolo bridge. The RG321 is of mahogany body, while the RG350 is basswood body.

In terms of quality, it would be even harder to say. Both units are acceptable quality, IF they are built well. Whatever I put here would be meaningless if you went down and happened to buy a dud unit, with a broken part in the bridge, some glitches in the wiring. etc. I understand that Ibanez rarely has quality control problems, but sometimes it just happens.

Decide on the features and specifications you want from your new guitar, as well as the genre of music you want to play with the guitar, and look at the list of guitars to choose from again. It wouldn't benefit you if you ended up buying a guitar that everyone says is good but it's just not for your playing style.

Hope this helps. :)

Also note, the Edge III bridge on the RG350 is still a relatively new bridge and ppl are kind of skeptical towards it.

Its better than the horrid TRS variants of yesteryear and will hold tuning well if setup properly.

Anyway, if you are paranoid abt it, no fear, it can be replaced with an Original Floyd Rose, direct retrofit.

it holds its tuning quite well actually, i can go like insane on the whammy bar and it still comes back in tune, well at least 9 out of 10 times

there's a constant comparison of mahogany/ basswood here, why is that so? is mahogany superior in any way?

erm, i'm also 1 that prefers mahogany to basswood, it doesn't dent as easily, nevermind the weight, but the feeling of a mahogany body guitar def feels more solid

and mi view between the rg 350 and the rg 321? i'd take the 321, because lyk subversion said in his review, the infinity pickups are not as harsh sounding in the rg 321 as in the rg 350, possibly due to the bridge, the finish on the body and the body wood

Actually im kinda liking fixed bridges now too ... But cause if that shape, like soloist style body, it's better looking with a floating trem ... So i rather get 350 ..

Hmm

No . . . You are wrong. Don't buy a guitar with FR jus bec the FR makes the guitar looks nice . . . You gotta noe noe wat u wan & settle for it . . .

FR guitars are not realli that easy to maintain as compared to fixed bridge ones. Besides, if you don't do lotsa whammy or divebombs, then I suggest sticking to the 321.

an exposed/ satin finished mahogany dents as easily as basswood. i'm refering to the RG321, of course...

Agreed. Mine have loads of dents. Yet it still plays really good! Prefer Mahagony RG better then my another Basswood RG.
