Rewiring the LP

Hi all, just wonder what is the different between the Seymour Duncan Wiring for a LP vs the one Gibson used (show on both links below; the one from stewmac is actually what Gibson is using)??

Seymour Duncan Style:

Gibson Style:

What is the advantage of each and how do they affect the tone??

Can a orange drop mod and a treble bleed mod be done in both case?

Thanks in advance!

heh, didnt really look thru the wiring, but usually for lp wiring, the different is in the middle position when 2 pickup are used together

one of the wiring will have any one of the volume control affecting both pickup when the pickup selector switch in middle position(eg, turn the bridge pickup volume down, you will down both pickup volume down) while the other wiring will only affect the particular pickup volume when using individual vol knob.

Theres some info bout the authenticity of the original LP wiring round the net as well, if interested can google it. Some people prefer individual volume control when in middle position while some prefer the way its been wired originally.

Orange drop cap is for tone pot while treble bleed on volume pot usually.

I have google my question out without satisfactory answer...

For the convenience of everyone, the different between the 2 wirings are the placement of the cap. Both wiring control neck and bridge independently in the middle position.

The orange drop mod i usually seen (from beez actually) is done using the seymour duncan's wiring; have not seen one for the stewmac one before.

So I'm just wondering what different does it do in the placement of cap and how does it affect the tone. Is there any advantage over the other.

I'm thinking of re-wiring my SG but don't want to test it out coz it take time. Want to do it once and for all. cheers!

heh, technically, the caps are still wire the same way even thout it seem different in both diagram

The "different but same same" thingy is the leg of the cap where its connected to ground.

seymour duncan one, the leg of the cap that goes to gnd is connected directly to the tone pot itself, then via another cable to the gnd leg of the volume pot

the other diagram, the leg of the cap that goes to gnd, goes directly to the grd leg of the volume pot

the connection prolly doesnt affect anything tone at all. Its just connecting whichever point that need to go to ground, to ground

oh, prolly the different in the wiring of the 2 is that the pickup in seymor duncan one got more lead wires to the pickup and if never do any fancy split coil thingy, some of the extra leads need to be grounded.

The stew mac diagram pickup only got 2 leads, so everything be easier and less extra points to ground
