Reverb Pedals!

The Strymon Blue Sky caught my ears by the neck! Unforunately i dont know if SV have em at the moment. The holy grail i had was warm and sounded very organic but not my thing. So what do you guys have on the board.

Tried the Holy Grail Nano, the spring sounds pretty nice.

Then got hold of a WET reverb, the black version. I love it! Very clear sounding, doesn't sound anything like a spring reverb, it's designed to sound like a real room reverb. When ON, it's buffered, so some might not like the added high end tho it's really very little. It's very versatile, can go from totally dry to mild, slapback type reverb to really lush to totally wet mix (for parallel fx loops). Note that the older blue version cannot output totally dry signal, only 50/50.

WET vs Blue Sky

edit : oh, the newest version now has selectable bypass.

I'm using a Blackstar HT-Reverb. It has room/hall/bright hall/plate/spring/arena/reverse/gate reverb modes, reverb timing settings, a "dwell" setting to enhance harmonics, a tone knob, etc. It also has a footswitch you can step on to switch between a pre-programmed long/short reverb setting. Alternatively, you can adjust the time knob also.

To my ears, I find the reverb modeling very natural. No matter what modes I select, it doesn't sound electronic. Gives a nice atmosphere to whatever I'm attempting to play, be it clean strumming or distortion chuggings.

I like the HT-Reverb, its the only constant in my fledgling, evolving effects board. Downsides are that because of the valve system, it uses its own 22v A/C power adapter and the pedal itself gets warm to the touch after a while. Nothing that will scald or burn you, just...warm.

So far, I'm pretty happy with this pedal. Don't think I'll be hunting for a replacement anytime soon. I hope!

Try a Tc electronic hall of fame, online clips are awesome. i don't own one yet but i do have a flash back delay(it kills everything out there in the same price range.)

judging how the flashback is , i don't think you can go wrong with a hall of fame :D

Best I've owned is hands down the Strymon blueSky. The high and low cut allow you to dial in the most natural sounds regardless of guitar or amp. It's got the sweetest, subtle modulation and the decay goes to infinity. To top it off it's very compact compared to other high-end reverbs, runs on standard 9v DC and has a simple 1 preset switch. Gig and studio worthy.

Currently using the M9's verbs for convenience, but of course they sound great too and there's the signature Octo model from the Verbzilla, as well as some unique models like tile, cave and particle verb. Other reverbs I've particularly liked are the EHX Cathedral and Muza FD90 (although that has noise problems of its own).

When ON, it's buffered, so some might not like the added high end tho it's really very little
The buffer doesn't add high end -- that means you're already losing high end from the cumulative load of your cable length when bypassed.

Yeah, my next target is a TC Hall of Fame. Would really like to play with the new Eventide too but I don't think it'll fit either budget or pedalboard!

I might wanna get a HoF, if the modulation is better than the RV-5 and if there's a shimmer toneprint in the foreseeable future!

The Hall of Fame is USD$150. Boss RVs cost as much or more, especially older RV-2s and 3s, and the Hardwire RV-7 is in the same range.

It's exactly the same with digital delays.

Jialat la, you guys. All of a sudden, I also want to get the Strymon. I was pretty satisfied with my HT-Reverb but the hornet's nest has been stirred! When I get back from Shanghai, its SV and Strymon here I come!

Hi all,

as promised, I picked up the Strymon Reverberator and after a week with it, I can say that it is absolutely brilliant sounding. There are multiple modes and also a Favorite switch to store a favourite sound. Nice robust build, knobs feel meaty and uses standard 9V power. When engaged in the Shimmer mode, and using the Pre-delay knob, you can even produce rather convincing synthesizer sounds.

This pedal doesn't alter the original tone of your guitar and still gives a nice "depth" into the sound. Goes well with distortion too. There are still many variations and sounds to be explored, but so far, even in the basic reverb mode, I think much of its asking price is justified already.

Here's a link to the user manual: http://www.strymon.net/wp-content/uploads/blueSky_UserManual.pdf

Enjoy, folks!

It's fantastic eh? I found myself using the plate shimmer with the damp all the way back even when I didn't need an octave sound. And I agree it works wonderfully with dirt. I'll buy one (again) one day $_$

@chungmun77: WAH BRO! out doing some major shopping! hahah easter la not christmas yet! am itching to get my hands on a BSR and a El Cap! Congrats!

Howdy Skipper!

Thanks man! I've been poisoned by the Gas bug, jialat! After discovering the world of effects, its now a matter of collect-then-select. The collecting part sure is fun, but sure is expensive as heck too! :(

Oh, I did get a chance to hear the El Cap in action and to my untrained ears, it left a very good impression. I don't know how they do it but they somehow made the signal sound natural and, dare I say it, real. I'm rather convinced that these top end pedals are worth the moolah because they might just be the last pedal you buy. Well, at least for a while until something new pops up.

Have a good weekend, guys!

meh, i dont get reverb pedals if i have an amp with reverb.

hah depends dude.. most solid state amps dont come with built in reverb. a reverb pedal's just good to have on the run i guess. and lets face it most solid state amp reverb.. or even small tube amp reverb, leaves a lot more to be desired. even more so if your into the whole shoe gazing thing.. where you need large dynamic cave like and other ridiculous reverb types. of course if you can carry around a good ballsy tube amp with awesome tube reverb, i'm all for it! but otherwise.. heh this will have to do for now.

And then.. there's rack reverbs hah... eventide's eclipse and roland ones.. hah WHOLE new classifications of orgasm right there...

I find the El cap to add high end to your regular signal when on, maybe they're trying to emulate the preamp of the echoplex or something but it can be a bummer esp if you have a tone with lots of high end to begin with. Don't know about the other strymon pedals tho.

Oh, speaking of which, I've a G&L Rampage that's extremely bright. Despite changing the pickups to Tone Zone and getting Mike to install a treble knob, it still shrills a bit. Hmm, I've not run this through the Strymon reverb yet, I'll check it out in the morning and see what I find. :)
