Reignited A Lost Passion

YO! Am religiously learning Wish you were here with a friend of mine. Its pretty easy and it makes having 2 guitars playing it fun. Of cos, this friend of mine is only interested in playing rhythm guitar so im trying to get her to change her mindset. Afterall, why take up lessons if you are just learning chords and playing rhythm.

No VOX yet but it will come. Perhaps a bday gift to myself end of the year. I did however find an old Ibanez MIJ Vintage V300 in the store room. Sent it to Guitar connection to have them fix it up. Cant wait to try it as playing Wish you here just doesnt sound good on the electric.

The guy told me that the old vintage acoustic guitars from the 70s and 80s are great to keep and play so ill have to check it out when i get it back from the shop this week.

Hows the playing? Come on..you dont want to wait 27yrs to pick it up kekekeke

LOL Gilmour's face seems abit oval shaped compared to Leo...oh well...perhaps slightly similar...hahaha...

Gilmour has gone from long flowing hair to white, almost bald. Notice in Gilmours concerts, he makes a certain face when hitting the solos..cool...I tried it myself..looks funny lah..maybe its my face hahaha

Looks like ill have to start saving for em LOL

That's a 1956 strat. Don't expect the current American strats to fetch that kind of price tag.

thanks boyl and jonEthan!

i only wish i had carried on 14yrs ago instead of now having to do it all over again from the beginning!

Cheers bro, i know how u felt.. i start picking it up after 10 years.. but still very slow as compared to young kids nowadays. They have so many free resources nowdays as compared to what we had back then. All i can do now is start all over again slowly...

been toying with guitars too much lately..
getting the hang of it, but i'll freeze in presence of any audience
im continuing interest in the bass too, its much bigger & fewer strings.. lol!

lucky u how i wish my old congress is a vintage ibanez too hehe
wish u were here is my all time favourite.. what chords u playing on it?
some of my paintings inspired by that song & shine on u crazy diamonds
guess any of our old personal guitars from yesteryears are great for keeps..

where is guitar connection located now? or im mistaken it for guitar workshop?
i'd keep my options open, if i were to give myself a bday present it would be the 59bassman..

well..its better picking it up at some point rather than sit around thinking about it and not doing anything about it (i have a friend thinking of buying a gibson and he doesnt even know how to play and no intention of taking up lessons! LOL)

the good thing about learning the guitar is that you can just go at your own pace. even learning a new lick, a different chord variation and even a new song is progress...the best part it...it never ends! heh

well..not for 50years..maybe i can pass it down to my grandchildren eventually lol..

speaking of which. would it be substantial savings say to purchase a guitar from musiciansfriend and have it shipped to a US address and thereafter shipping it by a courier company?

i work for one of the big three companies and i have like a 75% discount on shipping so i was thinking of purchasing a guitar online and have it shipped locally to a friend in the US (free local delivery) and thereafter getting my friend to drop the package off for delivery to SG. wonder if the savings are enough to have to go to the trouble.

After 3 months of research, i've decided to just get it off from singapore ( thought i might save 10-20%).

BUt in your case thats a 75% discount on shipping.. thats alot of savings.. can consider.. even after you pay the tax. But one thing, depends on what guitar you're getting, some are cheaper overseas but some.. after shipping is almost the same.. plus local warranty.. This is based on my research, i never actually ship one in before though.. but i did buy some of my pedals from sweetwater.com..
Ship to my brother in California, then shipped it back to singapore.. +- i still save about 10%-20%..

gilmour,

i just got back into the habit as well. i stopped playing 6 or 7 years ago and then my officemates egged me into playing music again since they found out i have a good singing voice and i also used to play the guitar.

i'm more of a guitar player back then but it seems my singing is much better than my guitar playing, LOL.

anyways, i recently went shopping and bought a vox tonelabs LE effects pedal board and a Line6 spider III 15 watt amp at city music.

the Line6 spider III 15 watt amp at city music is on sale for $150. sound comes thru an 8" custom speaker and you can use 3 types of effects at the same time. has 3 distortions/OD, chorus/flanger, phaser, reverb, tape echo, and tremolo which is all built in to the amp.

now, i dont even use the tone labs LE effects. i just plug in the guitar to the amp directly and just use the knobs to mix the effects and its fairly simple to use since the there are lesser knobs to toggle with and even lesser buttons, no kidding, which i think are the highlights of this amp: simplicity and versatility.

also, 15 watts nowadays sounds like a 20, LOL, coz its so loud.

so far, im happy with this amp.

you also might want to try the vox 15-watt amp at city music. its on sale as well for $160, i think. i tried testing that unit as well and it had a warmer tone but i opted for something modern and versatile so i bought the Line6.

hope i get back in shape as soon as possible. wishing the same to you as well.

all the best. rock on!

Hendrix's 1963 Strat up for auction

Jimi Hendrix's personally owned and played white 1963 Fender Stratocaster (serial L14985) is expected to pull over 120 thousand US dollars at auction.

According to lot info for the Strat, this was one of Jimi's earliest owned Stratocasters.

hey..same here. i can do some licks pretty good on my own but when demonstrating to my friends, i make silly mistakes LOL BASS? reminds me of a simpsons episode titled 'Rolling Stones Camp' where everyone wanted to play lead guitar and Elvis Costello was recommending bass and he hit a few bass notes..homer went to throw the bass guitar out hahaha. I dont know if its easier but i dont fancy bass..to each his own i guess.

i have the original pink floyd tablature as well as one from a website by a guitar teacher named Justin. its pretty easy. all of the verse is open chords. the intro and solo is pretty good but need some bit of practice especially bending frets 2-4 on a acoustic.

its still at peninsula right in the tunnel linking the 2 buildings. they're charging me $65 to fix the guitar up...seems abit costly but then i didnt have time to get a quote from anywhere else and the guy was pretty helpful.

depends.. some are.. but sometimes ended up you save abit.. lets say 50-100sgd.. but without warranty as it only applies in States.

if savings of usd100 seem like okl.. but if 50sgd:sad:

cant recall the building, there was a guitar shop.. still around?
i guess for working professional 65 is ok lah, give & take- ppl rice bowl mah

hey..if you really want to get it online, find out if they allow you to use your own choice of carrier. If they do, then i can assist :-)

Im thinking to ship in a Les paul, but after much calculation.. end up save not much due to high shipping cost.. and i worry it will end up with scratches.. anyway ship guitars in before can advice?

Eieio, i think i would need at least SGD200 savings before considering buying it online. Damages and even lost packages do happen from time to time and you may be one of the unlucky ones to have the package go missing and even worse if its damaged and you need to spend more $$ to get it repaired. However, i know of people who have shipped using VPOST etc and its fine guess because the guitars are shipped in the hardcase so any damages would be limited a great deal.

Thanks for the video..im actually ordering some of his DVDS online from Amazon soon hehe David Gilmour In Concert, Remember that night, Live at Robert Wyatts etc

Heya Jon, Glad you've reignited your passion. Playing and singing isnt easy and needs a lot of work. I too enjoy singing as well. Not many guys out there can carry a tune well what with my occasional trips to KBOX and having to listen to guys belt out numbers...well..its more like giving a speech instead LOL

Thanks for the reviews/suggestions for the amp. Ive more or less set my sights on getting the VOXad15VT. Its reasonably priced and it has various pre settings for the different tones. I don't do much heavy distortion so this would be perfect for me. I still need to get a good electric guitar though so i'm considering budgeting for one soon. The 14yr old samick that i have is terrible so i'm just sticking to strumming on my acoustic instead.

Still have lots to learn though and still attending classes to keep my interests up and as always, inspiration comes from watching the greats time and time again.

Rock on!

Hil Gilmour
Check out the amp at citymusic, i think they are having sales on that model.
