hi guys, have a small recording project recently, some radio friendly rock tunes. ive recorded the bass part, but i feel i can get better tone, cuz so far im not getting enuff ummph, seems like my tones kena sucked!! im using a yammy att passive tru a hartke bass attack directly to the console.

anyone can share wat u do to get better tracks? maybe can tell wat kind of preamp, comp or effects u used for the tracking.

thx!!!

Recently did a project for MCYS... I ran my signal through a REDDI, VK Neve 1073 and UA LA-610 straight into ProTools... was a pretty radio-friendly bass tone. You might be able to find some plugins to help you out like Antress VSTs: http://antress.webng.com/

If you have $ to spend, a Demeter Compulator is a pretty good studio-quality compressor in a box.

Some gain and compression will probably help... start from there and work your way around. How are you monitoring your bass?

i would just use the balanced line out from my amp, a markbass LM250. i use a barge rc-3 for compression. to monitor i'd just hook it up to the cab.

my setup has nothing on josh's sick rig. but i just make sure i have some decent tools and use whatever tools i have on hand.

i think anything more than that would just be too much effort for me

thx guys for resp to my thread.

i guess its hard to emulate josh's extensive recording rig.
so i went on to buy a ebs microbassII and after a session of jamming, i tink its quite promising. but havent try recording, next session is next wk.

anione have experienced using ebs microbassII before?

Where are you recording anyway? See what you can do at the studio end. If you like your tone on stage, you should be able to get the same tone in the studio with some tweaking. If your song hasn't been mixed yet chances are you will think the bass sounds too raw for your liking.

The EBS is a pretty good preamp, if a bit polite. But it would work well for radio-friendly songs. Remember that compression is pretty important... you may not realise it but a lot of songs today compress the hell out of bass tracks to give a solid bottom to build on. Either way, you have to remember that it may not sound good alone, but might sound good in the mix :) Kinda like Stingrays...

blardy son of a motherless goat!!!

aniway, got myself ebs multicomp.. will tweak and give u peeps the verdict!!
