definitely sounds exciting. and yea there's a sum of money to pay to listen. just that i don't get why they must charge for people to listen to this redistar station. don't get me wrong i'm not against it but i'm just wondering how they're gonna pull in new crowds here. i mean for one, the majority of singapore's population probably currently prefer the sounds of their fav international acts than local ones and these are already provided to them for free. so would they actually want to pay to be able to listen to local acts whom they may not like? =/
it's like screening the english premier league or spanish league on tv for free and making people pay to watch s-league in a bid to promote local sporting talents.
just my take on this when i came across the article la.. of course i hope the station will enjoy great success in times to come =)
Thank you for your comments & support.
The reason why Rediffusion is offering a $240, 2 yr subscription plan till the end of Oct 08 compare to the regular price of $385 is because we want to make it affordable for anyone & everyone.
Why do I say this? A normal DAB radio would cost 500-600 dollars. If we were to put RediStar on DAB free to air, it will be costly for someone to even get the set, thus making it harder to even enjoy the beauty of local music. This set that we are offering is actually a DAB+ set, which is 1st in the world. On our radio, you can receive all our stations, 19 of them plus other DAB channels as well as FM. Another plus factor is we are trouble free. If you sign up with us today & the set unfortunately becomes faulty within the subscription, we will change it. You DO NOT have to pay for anything else.
To answer the question of why not FM? The reason is because there is no more FM bandwidth available & Rediffusion only has license to broadcast on DAB.
I am sure mainstream music has many followers. However, we believe in our local talents & we want them to be heard 24/7 every min, every sec. Local music today is of quality & heart & MUST be aired non stop. Majority of people who follow international acts do not listen to local music that much simple because there is not enough air time for local music to be heard. There is no platform until now. All of us @ RediStar has confidence in Singapore talent & we believe strongly that if given a medium 24/7, more Singaporeans will be exposed to Singapore music & eventually support & love our very own music.
We intend to get support from all CCs, as many departmental stores as possible, STB to help broadcast RediStar so more people will get to listen to our very own music.
I DO NOT agree on your statement, "it's like screening the english premier league or spanish league on tv for free and making people pay to watch s-league in a bid to promote local sporting talents." Singapore music today is not only matured but also of high standards & is very much comparable, if not, better than overseas act.
RediStar welcomes anyone regardless of popularity, regardless of music genre, regardless of music language. As long as you are Singaporean & you want to showcase your talent, you are always welcome on our radio.
