definitely sounds exciting. and yea there's a sum of money to pay to listen. just that i don't get why they must charge for people to listen to this redistar station. don't get me wrong i'm not against it but i'm just wondering how they're gonna pull in new crowds here. i mean for one, the majority of singapore's population probably currently prefer the sounds of their fav international acts than local ones and these are already provided to them for free. so would they actually want to pay to be able to listen to local acts whom they may not like? =/

it's like screening the english premier league or spanish league on tv for free and making people pay to watch s-league in a bid to promote local sporting talents.

just my take on this when i came across the article la.. of course i hope the station will enjoy great success in times to come =)

WOAH! I want some of those. The 'radio' like console! :) !

Coolness lah!

Will it be something like a FM radio thing? Or internet based radio?

Enlighten me please.

yeaa almost non-disrupted music without advertisements. guess that's why they need to charge listeners. cause normal radio stations get their $$ from adverts so for this one, no adverts = no $$ so must impose a fee for subscription.. sounds interesting la and no idea how it works ahha

reddifusion is a subscription based radio station(if in tv context, its known as cable tv), its been around since the 1950s. Its rather popular back then, before tv became a household item.

Thank you for your comments & support.

The reason why Rediffusion is offering a $240, 2 yr subscription plan till the end of Oct 08 compare to the regular price of $385 is because we want to make it affordable for anyone & everyone.

Why do I say this? A normal DAB radio would cost 500-600 dollars. If we were to put RediStar on DAB free to air, it will be costly for someone to even get the set, thus making it harder to even enjoy the beauty of local music. This set that we are offering is actually a DAB+ set, which is 1st in the world. On our radio, you can receive all our stations, 19 of them plus other DAB channels as well as FM. Another plus factor is we are trouble free. If you sign up with us today & the set unfortunately becomes faulty within the subscription, we will change it. You DO NOT have to pay for anything else.

To answer the question of why not FM? The reason is because there is no more FM bandwidth available & Rediffusion only has license to broadcast on DAB.

I am sure mainstream music has many followers. However, we believe in our local talents & we want them to be heard 24/7 every min, every sec. Local music today is of quality & heart & MUST be aired non stop. Majority of people who follow international acts do not listen to local music that much simple because there is not enough air time for local music to be heard. There is no platform until now. All of us @ RediStar has confidence in Singapore talent & we believe strongly that if given a medium 24/7, more Singaporeans will be exposed to Singapore music & eventually support & love our very own music.

We intend to get support from all CCs, as many departmental stores as possible, STB to help broadcast RediStar so more people will get to listen to our very own music.

I DO NOT agree on your statement, "it's like screening the english premier league or spanish league on tv for free and making people pay to watch s-league in a bid to promote local sporting talents." Singapore music today is not only matured but also of high standards & is very much comparable, if not, better than overseas act.

RediStar welcomes anyone regardless of popularity, regardless of music genre, regardless of music language. As long as you are Singaporean & you want to showcase your talent, you are always welcome on our radio.

Thank you for supporting our very own home grown talent. We are broadcasting on DAB+(digital audio broadcasting plus) which is the 1st in the world. This medium boasts flawless crystal clear audio quality(similar to CD & without the fizzy noise FM gives). We are not on internet.

don't get me wrong. i am in agreement with you that singapore music today is matured and is of high standards. for me i agree with that. what i meant with the comparison to soccer was just that to the non-listeners or non-followers of local music, they may not find local music worth listening to while there are those followers of the local scene who strongly believe that local music is indeed of high standards. just like how a die-hard fan of s-league would tell you that the s-league is of very high standards while those who do not follow it will say otherwise. yep i wasn't of the intent to say that local music is of lousy standard cause i do agree with you on that definitely (:

Well, RediStar marks the start to a medium that should be there long long long ago. Now that Rediffusion has championed a platform for local talents to be heard 24/7 round the clock, I do believe Singaporeans will be supportive of our fellow citizens. We just have to let our very own music do the talking. Something that the whole of Rediffusion & myself is very confident of.

Well, and should anyone be keen in linking up RediStar, here's the HTML code to use:

Music music and more local music!

Hey guys!

Wooo, our blogsite link's thrown up there as well. ;)
Great great.. for the show I'm looking for musicians/personalities with talent that we can have on air. As you can see from the blogsite we've got solo artistes and bands on too.

I wish to feature bands every week (whether you've made it or not it doesn't matter, so long you've got great sounds and songs to play on air) on the show.

For interested musicians/bands out there, PM me with links to your myspace account/youtube vids/anything else that will allow me to have a listen to your songs.

And if you've got music events, concerts and festivals going on in Sg, do let us know too!

Do remember to visit our Rediffusion and Redistar sites for frequent updates! And of course, do subscribe to the station to enjoy the great tunes we can provide in Sg while we spread our wings wide enough to support local music and reach out to alot of ppl in alot of places...

Together we can fight crime! Low crime doesn't mean no crime.

Okay last line's random.

Local music will invade sooner than later!

Cheers for those with Monday blues,
Friz =)

yup, we do things to promote home grown talents so if you guys have any innovative ideas on how we can further promote local music, pls feel free to pen it, we will take it into consideration. Like maybe a concert by budding talents or a CD compilation consisting various local artistes or even a portal where local music can be downloaded to the hp for a fee & $$$ given to the artiste himself.
