Recording quick and easy

A few of you guys were telling me at the BBQ about a cheap and fuss-free approach to recording the guitar. Well I can barely remember what was said, except that it entails plugging the guitar straight into the comp?
So I hope you can dispense with your wisdom again :) Pardon my noobishness in the matter!

Ok, I've not exactly done this but this is what my brain logged of the information they gave.
1. Any analog/digital pedal.
2. Buy a converter for your 1/4 inch jack to convert into the small pinhole kind, and plug it into the microphone jack.
3. Record!
Cheers! :lol:

k .. here is wat i do lar ..

guitar - korg ax1500g - com

the effects to com part .. u just use a converter .. whcih u can get from electrical shops lar .

it is a guitar cable head to a earphone head 1 .. for u to plug to the com either on the mic or line in port ..

yea.. its really simple .. for recording .. got a few programs to use lar .. but the simplest and most user friendly would be Audacity,

i'm not sure if there is a difference or not, but someone told me to get the mono convertor. Meaning to saym on the convertor, there will only be 1 stripe around the head instead of 2.

Why get the mono convertor? If your pedal has a mono output, then you get a mono adaptor, you will hear output from your left speaker/earphone only. Its fine since you can config your recoridng program to take the left channel input for recording but then its very awkward to record like that right?

Plus, there should be NO degradation of sound... in anycase, unless you are using high end sound cards, you will not be able to capture all the tone properly.

Why not get a mono to stereo converter? At least you can listen to both speakers/earphones while you record and thats much more comfortable and convenient.. There are Proel converters readily available, about 8 dollars.

Vaiyen, i just use proel coz they are sturdy... i don't know if they work better or not...

You can get them from most audio hardware stores... they are big convertors... thats sports and ranking shop also has them.

what i do is.....guitar.to all my pedals..then straight to the com using the converter as stated above. i use audacity to record too. but it seems to me the sound thats recorded isnt very nice.tobne soudns horrible to me....not like the recordings the other guys have done. so i was thinking maybe i should go through my amp first then to the com.

This can only be done if u are using a Multi effect that has a Line-out Jack.

Always turn on yr Cab-Stimulator so that it sounds more natural

Line-out signals are suitable for direct input into computer /laptops line-in function. This will ensure good and clean recording.

Also, make sure that your recording does not peak. Peaking results in distortion. And believe me, it's not the distortion we want.

For recording thru the effects pedal (analoge ones), it's super tricky. If u line in directly, it will sound harsh as the signal is not converted. Using a D.I doesn't work.

Best if u can do this

Guitar -> Effects -> D.I -> Mixer -> Recording out -> Computer

Best if the D.I is like Sansamp etc. so that u can the tone of a real amp, esle it will sound too sterile.

Or

Guitar -> Effects -> Mike -> Mixer -> Recording out -> Computer

And also, if i am not wrong, most 1/4 to 1/8 convertors are stereo haha

You can get it at any havey normans, and of coz Sim Lim. Y pay for Proel when u can get the things most sound guys use over at Sim Lim and it's gold plated some more hahaha

*Disclaimer if anything that goes wrong!

haha truez But then i'm the Neutrik type of guy =)

Only Nuetrik heads will do for me but for the 1/4" i prefer Amphenol heads

hez =) Proel I never use b4, so I can't really comment.

But if u wanna buy, test it b4 buying it heehz

If can thn A B it (But tat's abit hard core hahah, i think the shop ppl will stare at u)
