There are many different types of amp avaliable in the market, but do you guys recommend if i were to get medium size amp with good tone & stuff, is peavey's amp good? i tried it before at swee lee.....so pls enlighten me my budget below 1.5k..... thanxss 8)

Ichiro,

You could educate yourself by reading up Harmony Central on the reviews on different amps.

Actual selection should ultimately be based on actual play testing of the amp.

1.5K? wahhhhh...

Go get a Marshall from Davis.

Or a Peavey XXX tube from Swee Lee <---- Those rock. Great sounding.

Or you can try a Laney TT... not sure 100 or 150... but they're supposed to be excellent. PG and Timmons uses it.

I'd like to add, do take what you read in Harmony Central with a pinch of salt.

Because, most people who don't like their amp won't even bother to give a review on it. These reviews are very bias towards the user's own preference.

You should at least be a mid level guitarist before you start appreciating and differentiating amps tone. If you are a beginner, I'd suggest getting something simple, cause your style may grow and evolve, but the amp is fixed in what tone it will give you.

You might end up putting it in a corner collecting dust if you get an amp which does not suit you later.

best way for u to know what amp u want is to go and test it u'reself....then depending on u're budget get the one which is the best to u...

get a peavey blazer 158, its only $150, once you get more advanced on your skills, you'll appreciate the sound on it, and might go on to something else... at least thats my view...

All reviews are like that, even those in supposedly 'impartial/objective' magazines. In fact, i found the opposite on Harmony Central - if people don't like something they will go out of their way to be as viciously scathing about that product as they possibly can - often with very very funny results. :)

i already have 2 amps at home.... haha.... i am an average guitarist bah, i am selling both away & get a better amp... so just asking around to see you guys and your views....btw what do you guys think about peavey transtube special 212....

hey ichiro im recommending the peavey ultra 112 amp. 60 watt tube amp. 3 channels. crunch and ultra share eq. clean has a seperate eq. its a discontinued model. can get one for under 1.5k. im planning on getting one by the end of this month. it has amazing tone. the alternative is to get the peavey tripleX which is de equivalent except tt the tripleX has 3 channels and 3 eq. hope this helps :D

i agree, the clean sounds nice, and a so-so lead channel. If u think a reverb is needed then go for blazer 158, otherwise take the rage 158. Though i m a noob guitarist, i find that amp pretty nice to have.

The Transtube 212 to my opinion should be a more powerful version to the Bandit II of Peavey's transtube range. If you are just using it for home and small gig, the bandit will suffice for you get the same thing abet a smaller package only. 80watts is plenty of power, and these can chug out awesome output.

Peavey in my opinion is always a good choice as it always deliver to expectation. A working man's amp. Don't listen to all those crap that its just an average amp, not great tone. Tone is very subjective, and believe me, this amp has a wider range of usable tone than most tube amps does.

Sigh, it does seem like I'm advertising for SL don't I. I feel sad too that that is the only place for you to get it.

Tube amps no doubt will give you more warm tone, but that is subjective too. Most tube amps will have a limited voicing, so it may sound great with this distortion effect, but with another it just won't click. Unless you are into stuffs like blues, jazz or rock & roll......softer stuffs. A tube amp IMO won't sound very much warmer than a transistor when in heavy distortion mode.

Remember, tube amps needs more looking after, higher maintainence cost , and hefty repair bills. Transistor amp are 'maintainence free' and only see the doc when there is problem.

+1 for the reverend. kingsnake or goblin. listen to the clips, really rocks. if only i had 1.5k...sighz...all ze best dood...

Just a thought, plenty of dudes are buying into the 'sound clip' samples of products and claiming that 'Wow!! now that is something!!'.

example: I bet if you get Steve Vai to do a sound clip on a Samick Strat Copy S$200 guitar, the guitar will surely sound like heaven.

Every seller out there will only want to present the good side of his product, never the bad. He will not sell the bad points as an handicap, but rephrase it as some excuse like 'oh, that feature is not neccessary these days'. So easy to do in internet advertising, no real product is before you, just a mirage.

Heehee... I guess I just a proponant of actually seeing and touching, my faith is in God, but not on what is produced by the hands of man.

Go out ye flocks of guitarist, hear-th, test-th and feel-th the wonders of ye real guitar world, stopp-th sitting here-th, thou internet trapp-th ye within. :smt059

well, u do have an obvious point there. but just to be fair, i heard the clips for the POD XT Live and the Roland Cube 60 amp before i went to test it physically at the stores, and as far as i can remember, the real thing was pretty close to the clips.
