Recommend OD pedal?

The 7th heaven is really a versatile pedal. Its more amplike than my Pure Drive even on lower gain settings but for jazz the PD really takes the cake.

I'd recommend the Cool Cat distortion for the TS needs. Its essentially a crunchbox clone that can go from a mild overdrive all the way to 80's hairspray kinda distortion tones. and at a sub par 40 bucks....

budget under 300! i actually wanted to tube zone but... oh well $$$!

Isn't the TZOD $299? Or has the prices gone up since I bought mine when it first came out?

Anyways, you want a gain booster for your main drive? Then can I suggest you not use the same pedal for both metal and hard rock? They are actually 2 very different levels of saturation and compression, and it's not easy to get something that fits both. Not even the TZOD paired with a crunchbox gives that compressed metal tone that we hear in most metal recordings. Only a metal pedal will deliver that.

Even if you take a TL-2 and get it to sound like a distortion (which is possible) it will not have the "space" that a distortion pedal will have. It is deliberately compressed. And not matter how you use a TS808 or TS9 to boost a crunchbox, or any other medium gain pedal, you will never get that same level of compression and focus found in the MT2 or TL2. They are mutually exclusive.

At the end of the day, what you get boils down also to what amp your'e using. No matter how good a board you have, or guitar, a crap amp will only do so much to let it come through.

MXR ZW-44 all the way.

once, i went jamming, i only bring that pedal to play all the songs when i jamm
