HEY SOFTIESS!

any1 can recommend a OD pedal for a fellow Hard Rock/Metal genre guitarist? (:
budget under 300! i actually wanted to tube zone but... oh well $$$!

Cheers!

Standalone or Stack? I don't know about standalone pedals... However, for stacking, the Wylde Overdrive is a good one.

wow if main drive, i think u can ignore the suggestions already. i assume that they think ure refering to a solo boost.

for main drive, the hm200 is pretty good for its sub 100 price :D i'm using it and it can handle quite alot of genres from blues to heavy metal :)

In my opinion, an overdrive pedal (tubescreamer or no) will not suffice as a main drive if we're talking about hard rock and heavy metal here... Get at least a high-gain distortion pedal because most of those can clean up enough to get a nice crunch tone for hard rock.

Agreed. Excellent pedal for hard rock and heavy metal considering its low price. I'm still loving mine after these years.

Not sure what's wrong with the people replying to this thread.
The fella is asking for a high gain pedal to handle Heavy Rock/Metal but the suggestions are stuffs like TOD, ZW OD (essentially an SD-1 which is essentially a TS) and a tubescreamer?

Now now, before we stray off from proper recommendations, although I admit the usage of the term 'OD' is off in the title, but rather a distortion pedal would suit better.

Your aim for a tube zone ain't so far off, it does capture the rectifier vibe and is very versatile indeed. If you want it, chances are you'll still want it despite getting a substitute. Other choices to look at? The Seventheaven by Gworx would be good; comparable to that of a pricey Tone Czar Open Haus. Otherwise a Guyatone MM-X Metal Monster can deliver huge sounding tones. A much cheaper alternative would be a Hardwire TL-2; big sounding tone at a low price.

Comes down to 4:
MI Audio Tube Zone (Boogie-in-a-box)
Gworx Seventheaven (Bogner-in-a-box? very amplike in dynamics)
Guyatone MM-X Metal Monster (straight up big tone)
Hardwire TL-2 (what the MT-2 should have been, plus steroids)

yup get a hardwire TL-2.
the seventh may not rock your boat for now.

other stuff you can consider
crunchbox,
Keely DS1, (it goes a long way)
the other hardwire distortion.
