hey guys, i recently acquired a timbre strat sss to expand my tonal library in my arsenal :D
currently using the stock pickups but im thinking of swapping them out.

well, im not sure what single coil pups are out there since i've been playing buckers since i've started, but i've heard pretty decent reviews of the tesla plasma pickups

what i want to achieve from this strat mod would be that twang sound you hear on many telecasters. i also want it to handle gain well, not the biting kind of sound but warm and chunky.

do lend me some help guys! thanks!

well, u can try test VR-1 pickups from tesla at Standard Value. Mike will be able to answer your doubt abt pickups. Well i equipped vr1 into my strat, what i can say is that it has the twangy sound im looking for! On cleans, very vintage sounding, but its nt hot enuf to handle high gains pedals. plus it is very quite.
Hope this helps!:)

Big dippers are stock on JM strats, can't be bought after market if I'm not wrong. Unless used.

Warm and chunky, you might want to get some overwound pickups, approx 5-10% overwound may suit you well.

These have less treble, more mids and output. Keep in mind, the more overwound the pickups are, there is generally less clarity.

Personally I find the texas specials on my tele good enough to get the gain I'm after. Those are the only overwound pickups I currently use.

But I'm more of a glassy strat sounding person, my strat pickups are all vintage voiced.

If you find recording of hendrix; especially those blues jams, to have enough gain for you, pretty much any vintage voiced pickups will get you there.

On a side note, the rest of your rig actually plays a bigger part on your tone compared to pickups.

I'd say the single most important variable is your amp + speaker combination.

haha, alright. well, if it helps, im playing on a blackheart little giant stack. seen alot of people here having texas specials and fast track pups. are they available in singapore?

hmm you might like to have a go at the lace sensors holy grails. it's what i have installed on my strat. it's very sweet sounding, very nice and very very quiet even on high gain settings. it's a pretty awesome set =) you might like to check it out.

Texas specials can be bought from swee lee.

They're hotter than the usual vintage ones I use.
Since its within your budget, I suggest maybe you drop by Davis guitars and have a look at their calibrated strat sets from seymour duncan.

If you don't fancy the SSL-1 or 2 sets, you can look at their single pieces.

SDs are priced resonably. If you want cheaper, PM seekz and ask him to bring in some GFS pickups for you.

They are even cheaper. They have hots as well.

Whitestrat is a fellow strat lover, too bad he went to EBs :P

I don't have experience with blackheart amps, but what kind of "gain" you thinking of?

Yup, it can only be found on a JM strat. Look at ebay if you really want to get a set. there's a set on auction now. search on ebay, Its not impossible to get if you have some $$$ to splash.

But with the budget u have, i guess that would not be an option.

Wait... Hold your horses. I didn't want to reply properly last night because my son was sleeping next to me, and the sound of typing will wake him up.

You are going to step into a puddle of sai if you don't get something right: "What sound do you want?"

How many single coil players have you heard? Who's sound texture do you like and want to have?

I've played quite a bit of singles. dabbled into some laces, some dimarzios, some tone riders, tried fralins, suhrs etc etc... I've noticed something odd. That familiar Fender tone we like and want? it's only available from Fender. You can't get it anywhere else. They say you can, but you can't. Thing is, many people will misread this statement as Non-Fender = Bad. no, nothing can be farther from the truth. They're just different. Differently nice.

And lastly, what's wrong with the pickups in your guitar? If you don't know what is wrong, then what's the point of changing? I've heard SX strats that sound killer.
