Recommend Me Drum Sets

I intend to buy a Acoustic drum set, but i don't really know the brands, quality and the sound of each drum. Therefore, I'm here posting this thread hoping that you guys would help me out. So, which drum would you recommend me? My price range is about $1000 - $1200.

Both of those are pretty good choices! One thing I don't like about the black hawk, though, is that the one I played before had only 5 tension rods around the toms, rather than the usual 6.

I would stretch that 1200 budget a little bit and or discuss with the seller of the Phattie drums in the forum. Its worth it man.

How about the Yamaha Stage Customs? Is it worth the higher price compared to Pearl Forum and Gretsch blackhawk 5? Think it costs $1600 from Luthermusic Works.

The newer Stage Customs look great.

But don't forget to budget for new heads as well, if you intend to maximize the potential of the kit right away. Set aside about $200-$300+ for that. But there's no harm in taking your time and only upgrading them when you feel like it later. No rush in such things unless you have a special gig you're getting ready for.

If it's not urgent, I'd personally prefer the 2nd hand market - you really stretch your dollar and have some $$ left over for other accessories - heads, cowbells, shakers, clamps, stands, etc etc.

My advice to TS is look out for 2nd hand set... Like Weckl-x said... it really stretches your $$ and if you are just starting out... no point getting a brand new set... Its not like u will bring ur entire drumkit to every gig... I believe u will only practice it at home, right? Even that... if your room is not more or less dampen or sound proof... its no use buying a good drum set... Get a average set and invest ur $$ in a damn good snare drum n some cymbals... Reason... u will most probably bring ur snare drum to a gig then ur drumkit...

Agree with the prev 2 post whole-heartedly. The 2nd hand market is your friend. There is tremendous value in them. Keep the extra money for the new heads, a new snare and new cymbals.

Great drums with great wood sound great in a recording studio and/or open gigs. To me, they dont make much difference in a small room in a house and or HDB

It is not *WHAT* you play, it is really *HOW* you play.

Serious....I rarely see a forum set on the floor at the warehouse though....can you buy from warehouse inventory during the sale or just from the display?

(If I'm not wrong)

Customers are allowed to check the inventory lists at the first floor and ask for stock.

I'm pretty sure it's just on display, I've asked them about snares and cymbals before and they told me that. So it should also apply for everything else... well, I guess that'll be a problem then.

Oh? The last SL sale I went to, my friend actually asked em to get stuff from the warehouse. They had a list to look through. Something like that.

If I remember correctly, its only what is on display and some special items on a list. So its really what they intend to clear then....so all depends on luck...

just to hijack, anyone has any inside info as to when the swee lee sale will take place?

and based on past exp, how long should i camp outside the shop if i really wanna get it fast?

ohno. Then I really hope that a forum set is up for sale! I am so ready to grab it at the cheap and discounted price ^^

Hope I am lucky enough :D
