Recommend me a smooth overdrive/distortion plz!

I use a banzai fireball 3 which gives that rich creamy tone. Has a boost stage and I sometimes use it for the mid scooped kinda sound too, so its pretty versatile. Will recommend the fireball 3 if there wasn't a budget.

But I think with $250 you can get the sahasrara from om labs? I'm using that now too and it can go from slight drive (if you down the gain stage and up the pregain) to creamy kinda drive (upping the gain stage). I like it because it is very quiet and doesn't hiss.

Most importantly, its made in Singapore :D

If I am not wrong, those guys at Hillsongs use Vox-type amps. Maybe you want to get a pedal that give that Vox kind of sound.

Anyway, I do like the Xotic AC booster and BB preamp. They are nice and goes very (very is an understatement) well with other pedals.

Do also try out the TOD that Subversion mentioned, or the Digitech Bad Monkey, they are really good but sadly underrated. Many times, these cheaper pedals can surprisingly give a higher utility than the more expensive boutique ones.

May I recommend the Danelectro Cool Cat Drive V2 pedal ;)

Just got it today and tried it with my Strat and it really mantains the guitar's natural tone while giving it an edge that good for playing blues and not too heavy rock. And the good thing of the revised edition is that, there's a trim pot at the back of the battery compartment to adjust the gain to ur taste. Cheap and there's lots of options to explore :)

Hey Faizal. The internal trimpot sounds good indeed hah. May give that a try.

And it seems the BB Preamp is very popular eh? You guys use it as a boost or standalone? Andy Timmons uses it and he does have very sick tones haha. I should give that a try too. How is the BB standalone?

bro faizal,

How is the v1 and v2 in comparison?
Tone wise around the same or are they 2 totally different animals?
Thought of getting a V2 to play around since i have been so impressed by V1.
It even crossed my mind to re-house this ugly little cheap pedal cause of how good it sounds.

I stack my V1 with a BB preamp and it sounds really good.
:)

Bro junkiemanxl

Well...first things first, the v2 has a input trim pot to control gain output and the lo-fi switch whereas the v1 doesn't have these 2 features. So I dun think it's wise to make a comparison between the 2 even if I were to set the same knob settings on each knob. The V2 has more gain I would say than the V1, can get fuzzy too..

Maybe its just me, I find the V2 works well with my Strat as my main overdrive for bluesy Strat sounds (think Clapton), something that my V1 can't do. Its great for rhythm playing too. The V2 trimpot btw, I set it to low, kinda gave the Strat that sparkle..but I'd like to experiment more on the trimpot thingy. I could even try testing out by doing the reverse. Use my V2 to boost the V1 instead...:)

I think i'll pick one of these up during the weekend.
Hmmm... more gain...
This might be good
:)

Sounds rather good bro. And Junk, you stack your BB with your CC Drive right? What kinda tones does that give you?

And to eieio. Hmmz smooth overdrive/distortion meaning something that is not as jarring to the ears. Something more pleasant and polite hah.

i stacked it with a CC TOD and not CC drive
:)

The stacked tone of the TOD and BB is nice creamy and warm. thick sounding with some transparency. Great for bluesy solo's with a mid range bump..

Hard to explain in words da...
hahaha
:)

I think a Lovepedal eternity will fit perfectly...

Or the Hermida Mosferatu that I'm selling (shameless plug haha)...though that's slightly darker voiced than the eternity so it might not sound exactly like the video clip (I have played that song live with the mos though...still sounds great.)
