can someone recommend me a guitar that has preferbably 24 frets with a floyd rose bri .. something for hard rock / metal .. for a beginner/intermediate.. budget wise .. ard 500 ?

With a floyd? For $500? You can't get a good Floyd for that price, unless its 2nd hand.

One of the cheaper options is the Schecter C-1 FR ($890). It comes with a real Floyd Rose.

The only floyds which are worth looking at are the Original Floyd Rose, Gotoh Floyd Rose, Schaller FLoyd Rose and the Ibanez Edge series/Edge Pro.

But of course, if you aren't going to go whammy crazy, get a wilkinson trem, the Gotoh version.

ditto ShredCow- you have to look at the $800 range for a fresh unit with a decent floating vibrato bridge... the Ibanez RG320 is an example.

Thats an Edge Pro II trem right? More decent than the Lo Trs of yesteryear but it still can't beat the Edge Pro or Edges.... Good budget buy!

do u all feel a floating bri is necessary ??? cos if i dun wan a floyd .. ill be going for maybe the rg 321mh ..

Floyd Rose

Hi Siva,

Ibanez RG321MH would be a decent guitar to try as I've tested it out at Swee Lee. I mean u muz sit down & consider y do u wan a axe w floyd rose? If u aint dat Whammy Craziee Dude, i guess dat any guitar w fixed bridge would do jus as fine.

keep in mind that floyd rose is a quite a complicated system, compared to fixed bridge or those simple unidirectional bridges on strats.

you may spend hours changing strings on a floyd rose bridge, if you're inexperienced.

say, if your playing involves frequent detuning of your guitar, say from E standard to Eb or even a simple drop D, i'd highly recommend that you stay away from a floyd rose, as detuning one string will result in the others going out of tune too.

but by all means, if you wanna do divebombs and tricks, and have the patience for string changing/tuning, get a floyd equipped guitar :D

just my 2 cents

(i havent touched a floyd rose guitar for almost 2 years, coz my playing involves detuning and retuning, and i prefer kahler bridges anyway :D)

Agreed!

I totally agree w guitarnub. I'm holding onto a Tune-o-Matic Bridge w/ Stop Tailpiece & it served me just as well.

the only reason i include an Edge Pro II equipped guitar here is that it's very functional, unlike the TRS units which you mentioned, which i personally detest.

Sorry for hijack

Yeah wat abt the lincensed floyd rose? I have one in my S540, and was thinking of changing it.

How do u all rate the new zero position floyd rose by ibanez? Sounds gd.

Anyone had tremsetter installed? Can share if its really useful or not

the Lo-Pro Edge Vibrato in the Ibanez S540 is a fantastic unit (i own one S540), please do NOT replace it

so what's with a particular manifestation/ brand of a floating vibrato? it's all about reliability- does the vibrato bridge return your strings to pitch after use? this is the main concern.

thusfar, the Original Floyd Rose unit works very well. Ibanez's own interpretation of the Floyd, its Edge/ Lo-Pro Edge/ Edge Pro/ Edge Pro II/ III all work superbly.

then like that .. wat guitars to recommend me .. without floyd rose ..

hardtail or with standard bri is fine .. 24 frets prebably ..

What floyds are good?

As above:

Original Floyd Rose
Schaller Floyd Rose
Gotoh Floyd Rose
Ibanez Edge/Lo Pro Edge/Edge Pro

Don't bother abt any other Licensed floyd rose... They'll just lead you into a world of constant detuning.

The Ibanez Edge Pro II is a great low priced alternative, as what Sub said... but if you can afford it, get the Edge/Edge Pro.

To find out more, go www.jemsite.com and search around.

For a good fixed bridge axe, make sure its got a stable bridge and good quality tuners. Thats abt it. The Ibanez RG321MH is a good idea.

Original Floyd Rose = SGD 180

Schaller Floyd Rose = SGD 375

Gotoh Floyd Rose = SGD 220

Ibanez Edge = SGD 375 (Swee Lee Quote)
/Lo Pro Edge/Edge Pro = Should be around $400

The best of the bunch would be the Ibanez Edge/Lo Pro and Gotoh. Main reason being they have locking trem posts and the QC is very good.
Then Edge Pro, for lack of the locking stud and since it's Ibanez's own design, it is NOT swappable with any Licensed Floyd.
Then Schaller.
Then Original Floyd.

All of these are what pros use and they STAY IN TUNE. :)

Oh yeah, i forgot abt the Ibanez ZR trem. Excellent design, very very stable and smooth... but its not swappable with ANYTHING but itself. Around USD 400? Not sure....
