Rap Brings Together Rival Gangs in Manila Slums

In yesterday's straits times, there was a write-up on page 1 and 2 about how rival street gangs in Philippines (who literally kill each other in knife fights and gunfire) became music friends after acting together in some film called Tribu.

Like after the filming ended, members from different gangs still hang out together in makeshift studios to rap for each other.

Apparently some guy in the group was so motivated, he cut an album and is selling it and it's doing well enough for people to sell pirated versions of it. haha.

It's great that music can even melt enmity and inspire street gangsters to aspire for more!

oh yes i agree!! i felt really glad that music has actually brought peace to them.

i guess this also shows how conflicts/rivals are perhaps being perpetuated in some areas, and that groups of people do not really hold each other in deep hatred. in fact, if they put aside their differences/rivals, they do share some similar interests/beliefs with each other. why not seek peace, instead of perpetuating the conflict to the next generation?

Hahaha...can you imagine what goes on in there? They'll hanging out with the ho's and shooting up some powder while enjoying their Cristal together.....I wonder what the effect would have been like if they listened to metal instead.

i read that i read that !!! i quickly messaged those friends of mine about it. its so cool la. especially when its in the cover page sommore. woo .

I was actually doing a parallel of how Dalif related the rap part to a stereotypical imagery of hiphop, heh.

Hahaha...can you imagine what goes on in there? They'll hanging out with the ho's and shooting up some powder while enjoying their Cristal together......
