Everything about this govt is more than meets the eye... thats the scary thing about it. No one really knows what the agenda is. Now they say speak ur mind engage the youth, next day is find out all those that are most likely to cause a ripple and "fix" them. How? die lah....back to square one again.

..

there is really not much agenda as far as I can see. We're just really a tiny country in a world of big players.

How to prevent the big boys from bullying us? At the same time, how to keep our people happy?

Food for thought:

When it was announced on TV that MP Low Thia Kiang won the Hougang SMC, he was given: Less than 20 words of airtime.

I don't know about you, but I know about what I feel with regards to the media.

I think the next elections would be fun....the marginal victories in some areas speak alot about the changing tide...slowly but surely...... :D :D

Unless of course the PAP/govt promises another massive carrot like the progress package again as an incentive this time.Or promise to build swimming pools for each HDB block or something...

Have you considered that there's more than meets the eye as to why he hasn't stepped out of office yet?

Oh yeahs. Hi$ package. Superficial, I am too low-level to engage status, prestige, love in this ca$e.

And if there's any Opp being featured, it's all reporters asking them questions. Not as exclusive as POP...

I think Hougang and Potong Pasir residences are brave. They arent tempted by the package nor some lift upgrading programme, they voted what they feel is best for them. Yeah man, tide is changing, especially after even the muscle power had no means to topple Chiam. That I think send a huge message to the ruling party whats it all about now. I wished Chia and Slyvia won though. Anyways... are we in trouble talkin about politics here?

Seriously guys.

When it comes to who's running Singapore, I don't really care for Progress Packages. Upgrading talk. Free Medical Treatment. 5 million dollar hospices. Pension systems.

I want the dude who's running to deliver the promises and walk the talk. Of course, ALL WITHIN PERFECT SENSE.

Again, I don't wish to have an opposition. Neither do I wish to have some dynasty. Neither do I wish to have some "balanced" government.

I just want a government who will take care of me and serve their promises to my doorstep, and it can be any of the above.

Now, good, the opposition has come up with some good stuff so the PAP will be on their toes! Great! More power to the people because we will benefit from their "winning the hearts and minds" battle.

Yes and the "winning the hearts and minds " will be through all them carrots dangled at us.

Thats why we need quality opposition.Only upon feeling threatened can one bother to offer so much.

To get more freebies and carrots we need more outstanding opposition parties..We need them...because....We need to buy more gear....

Its about balance...agendas creep into even the most purest of intentions.

:D :D :D

Ok I retract everthing I said again. 8O 8O 8O

I don't think the current govt philosophy will be following that ever again. They want to get rid of the spoonfeeding.

What the govt can do is to create the environment. The rest is really up to us, whether we want to take care of ourselves etc etc is ours to be in charge of.

As you may or may not know, Temasek Holdings, the investment arm of the govt, has a major stake in Singapore Press Holdings. Also, Temasek Holding's CEO is our PM's wife.
How to be independent and fair like that?

But it's ok, young people are taking to the Internet for unbiased, fair reporting, and I reckon it will have a huge part to play in the next elections.

On another note altogether,

I'm sure if in the next election, WP contest more constituencies, the PAP won't get anywhere near 66.6%.

citizens just don't believe enough in SDA and SDP and tt's why they had to vote for the PAP in WP-absent areas.

WP has plenty of time to source for more quality candidates, and hopefully the next time around, they will stand for more areas. Shldn't be a problem with their growing brand-name.

haha I just said to a friend, she has every right to be proud of her fellow residents of Potong Pasir. They have Principles man, and the whole of Singapore respects them and the Hougang-ers for it. They showed the people of Aljunied.

Also, I'd rather have one strong opposition party than many mediocre ones. With the WP gaining credibility and support, a twin-party political system(think democrats vs republicans, labour vs conservative) doesn't seem so much like a pipe dream anymore.

Better days ahead.

Nevermind the results, I have a strong feeling we are at the cusp of a new political era. The ruling party know they cant afford to push the pple around anymore, with a strong opp. breathing down their necks.

GO SYLVIA AND AH LOW!

Many more... I ever seen a chart too...

Mdm Ho Ching Wife of PM Lee: Chairman of Chartered Semiconductor, ST Engineering, ST Capital, StarHub, Deputy Chairman of Singapore Technologies, and Director of Temasek Holdings and SembCorp Industries (Singapore Technologies unit)

Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew Father of PM Lee: Chairman of GIC

Brigadier-General Lee Hsien Yang Brother of PM Lee: Chief Executive of SingTel Group and SESAMi Inc (SingTel unit), and Director of Singapore Technologies Industrial Corporation and National Computer Systems (SingTel unit)

Colonel (Dr) Kwa Soon Bee Uncle of PM Lee (Mother’s Brother): Managing Director of Jurong Bird Park, Chairman of Wildlife Reserves Singapore and Director of Keppel Land

Mr Edmund Lee Cousin of PM Lee(Father’s Brother’s Son): Chief Executive of DBS Vickers (DBS and Singapore Technologies unit)

Mr Kwa Chong Seng Cousin of PM Lee(Mother’s Brother’s Son) Deputy Chairman of Temasek Holdings (Ministry of Finance unit)

Mr Ho Sing Brother-In-Law of PM Lee(Wife’s Brother) Vice President of Singapore Precision Industries 2000 (Singapore Technologies unit) and Director of Advanced Materials Technologies (Singapore Technologies unit)

Mrs Lee Suet Fern Sister-In-Law of PM LeeBrother’s Wife) Director of SembCorp Logistics

Ms Lim Suet Boey Sister-In-Law’s Sister (Brother’s Wife’s Sister) Senior Vice President of SembCorp Utilities).

And I may suspect some of the young WPers were put in difficult GRCs to gain rapid-valuable experience under pressurizing circumstances. And these young WPers, in the future may be contesting in other regions.

Vaiyen: I know, and I happen to know more after the elections. Like some Chua sisters, something this, something that...

Aiyah, relax lah guys. Why so angsty. Not say the the ruling party want to crush opposition mah. Why you all think like that. Mah Bow Tan already signal liao:

I don't think SDP is worth believing in...Singapore would be doomed if SDP wins anything...but that is if Chee is still the leader...

haha yes the Chua sisters...let's not delve too much into that sensitive topic.
So many things in s'pore that do not appear to be what they seem...

talk about accountability, and transparency.
