Questions about Registering A Business

Hey softies,

I know this is the wrong forum to ask this question but I'm giving it a try.

I wanna know, if I register a sole-proprietorship with ACRA under the name ABC Pte Ltd and then register a domain where I do the business at XYZ.com, is it permissible?

as mentioned, a Pte Ltd suffix denotes a company not a business (ie sole proprietorship / partnership).

in any case registering a domain name and the issue of trademarks and domain name rights is not something the ACRA site can help you out with.

a .com domain is administered by ICANN via the Internic site http://www.internic.net/

That's a good starting point to see what the basic do's and dont's are.

In short - yes, you can register a domain name (whether as an individual or via a business / company) that differs from your name or name of the business / company or a trademark that you do not own so long as you are not infringing someone else's trademark or their rights to use their business name or possibly committing one of many forms of cybersquatting (as this is a gray area).

You might want to consider registering your proposed domain name as a trademark under Singapore law to establish some proprietory rights over it.

hi daniel! thanks for the informative response. it's what i've been looking for.
i've already registered the domain name actually and is set to be launching an online store selling local and regional band cds. will be launching it before the end of this month. will keep fellow softies updated!

edit: oh btw, grafikpunk and myself are of the same person.
