Question re: Unity Gain at 3

my MXR Distortion+ only hits unity gain at the 3 o'clock point on the output knob...is there a way to mod this or something?

i find that when i use it at home with my little practice amp my distorted volume relative to the clean sound is fine when maxed out, but in a band setting even at full gain and volume output it sounds like there's a volume drop. could this have anything to do with using it in a pedalboard vs standalone?

i'm running all my pedals on a Godlyke power supply, so no batteries involved here.

thanks for any light you can shed on this!

cheers,
dharma

No worries there buddy as long as you get unity and a bit more.
The MXR Distortion+ is a simple single stage opamp clipper without a second stage for boost.
Just put a clean booster after for muchness ;)

thanks man....i don't have a clean boost pedal so...there's nothing i can do with the pedal itself to give it more volume so it doesn't sound like there's a volume drop in a band setting?

You can insert a simple boost in the pedal itself ...like a mod.
If this is your only dirt pedal ...
1) play your amp loud and kick in the mxr to taste ...
2) use a simple EQ pedal after to bring level up....
3) get rid of it ....pen knife the speaker

can... you can change the clipping diodes to LED but that will change the sound itself, but definitely will be louder.

ah ok...so i can't get any volume difference short of doing a mod?

i couldn't just saaaaay...put it right at the start of my effects chain? would that make any difference?

at the moment it's Wireless >>> Korg DT10 Tuner >>> Vox Wah >>> MXR Distortion+ >>> Seekz custom Dharma's Love Boxxx Splitter/Overdrive >>> Kimjaw Soniq Overdrive/Distortion >>> Line6 Echopark >>> DOD Digital Delay/Sampler >>> Amp
