i kinda researched on it, and im currently looking for a pedal suitable for alternative rock/ rock, and also able to do "chug chug" on guitar (palm muting on power chords for example =)
really like the mudhoney tone but kinda read that its bass end is not very tight. how will this affect the sound? will the chug chug become too "flabby" in a sense.
im really new to this pedal overdrive stuff so would appreciate any comments and experience!
thanks!

btw i currently have a hotcake from crowther audio and its bass isnt very tight, when i do palm muting and stuff i cant get the "tension" feeling. maybe its the guitar? and how will the mudhoney compare to it?

thanks!

and merry christmas!

If you want amp-like chug and hugeness, get a Seventheaven.

If you want light breakup any overdrive pedal will do (may need some mods though).

I found the Mudhoney to be in this category:
OD with fuzz-like character or when turned up, a RAT at high gain..
You got to try it to see if you like it man..

exactly my experience as well. It was a v good pedal for what it did, but it prob doesn't serve ur desire for a chug-chug tight bottom end type of sound.

Those that I've owned/tried and might work for u:
- Fulltone OCD v3
- Toneczar Openhaus
- Mad Prof Mighty Red Distortion
- BJF Dyna Red Distortion
- Crunchbox (a little flubby on the lows, but might float ur boat. Lotsa grease in this baby)
- Menatone King of the Britains

Most of the pedals mentioned by KennethC above should fit your bill, but it really depends on what kind of distortion intensity you'r after.

Hahaha dudelove i agree with u, but afterall these pedals r boutique. Honestly if u r not on a budget, just explore whole world of distortion pedals until u get something u like (all the above mention pedals r really cool, although i strongly recommend the 7theaven, fulltone's GT500 is not bad too), if u r on a budget then perhaps u might wanna state it so we can narrow it down for u........i personally have owned quite a number of distortion boxes and i must it is a learning path that everyone of us needs to take.

If u r in for a quick fix, u will most probably be disappointed with the end result unless u r really lucky. Try out all the above mention pedals and of course base the pedal on what u like instead of brands or the boutique tag, gd luck bro!

actually i think there's an od that might fit the bill. the barber direct drive. its much cheaper than boutique brands and it has the capability to compete with those priced much higher than it.

i think mrbukka will agree to that too.

Hahaha well i have to agree with dudelove that the barber direct drive is a very gd od/dist that is definitely bang for buck and affordable, but still very well built with boutique quality and tone

True true the DD is able to get a psuedo plexi tone but u gotta set the vol and tone pretty high up, but the nicest touch is the harmonics boost by pulling the tone knob. I am currently using it to boost my 7theaven and boy with the harmonics switch on, it is transformed into 8theaven kekeke!

thanks for all the input! =)
i think i'll go try them out before deciding.
the direct drive's pretty cool. where do they sell it?

Hahaha......well i think they will gladly let u use the ceriatone amps if requested, cause i tried it before and waoh wat a revelation! But yeah do try the direct drive, i think someone is selling on soft, perhaps u can do a search.

Dudelove, i seriously gotta admit ur ddss is swell man......love the custom look and the green led keke. Bro how i wish barber puts all the trim pots on the surface, so that tweakin is much easier!

yeah.. then it'd remind me of the tubezone. 6 knobs! but really the trimpots inside are really really useful. makes it so tweakable. and the most surprising thing is that the manual provided by david barber has sample settings for stuff like example, vintage marshall or ts808 many more, and they're surprisingly, very convincingly accurate!
