Query: Guitar Amp Head + Cab

Hi all, curious about the head and cab functions of the amp since I am hardly exposed to those type of amps.

I know the cab is the section where the speakers are, where your sound comes out and the head is the place where you plug your input and adjust your settings.

Why then some amps have the head/cab in one peice (Line6 Spiders/Vox AC30s) while some have them separate (Full tube Marshalls and Mesa B)?

Whats the difference, and can a head of a specific brand be used on another brand of cabs OR used with normal combo amps?

not at all. well to me, its the option of portability so when u jam, u bring ur sound in ya head and plug it into the studio's cab. an AC30 has head and combo(head/cab) and so do many other amps. some ppl like to save some space and just have one good cab, and many heads.. that sorta thing

if you are blasting any amp, chances are, it's gonna be loud. with more than a single speaker on board, regardless if it's a cab, there is more volume output. this would mean that even lower wattage amps are gonna have 'more' volume.

my take on it is this; if you are gonna invest in any good amp, where you live should not get in the way. but as it is, we are ethical people who would not want to disturb our neighbours, let alone our Darth Mum.

speaking of cabs, does anyone know where to purchase good cabs in singapore? preferably with celestion speakers...i have an ENGL fireball head but dont have a cab yet.

i believe Celestions in general are good drivers but some of them are more hype than they are useful.

the Epiphone So-CAL 412SL would be a good utilitarian cab, superb cleans, very responsive to overdrive. however, your ENGL would be better with drivers which are catered to high drive settings.

Hi loathed... If you want some celestions equipped cab, I recon you enquire about the legacy cabs from Ranking. It comes eith 4 V30s. Alternatively, you can custom make one from Nik from ceriatone. BTW did you import the ENGL fireball? Awesome amp from clips that I've heard.

celestion.. jensen.. goodman speakers..webers.. luckly nowdays we got many types of speakers to choose.. and sounded great to.. different kinda sound or character each model/brand.. but im still using sammi. speakers.hehe.

yea, the ENGL fireball was imported. i got a friend in arizona who could get these amp heads at a very much discounted price. so it was very much a gift from him. but its a hassle because they take quite a long time to ship it over and when it arrives it has to go through customs and stuffs. the shipping fee was slightly steep too. but overall i'd say its about 30-40% cheaper (including shipping, tax etc) than the one you find at Musician's Friend - Buy musical instruments, music gear, musical equipment online

SoundwavesMM carries some Eminence on their Yahoo auctions.

One thing about cab+head vs combo (that's the term for 2 in 1) - not-so-well designed comboes may rattle at high volumes which can irk people. But I think for most people it's the issue of portability or switchability.

I posted before - if you want a cab, Ceriatone or Evilbay. You may just get lucky.
