PRS Tremonti

From my experience, trying out at Davis is very difficult because they don't quite allow (particularly the old uncle) trying out unless you're a big name like Mark Tremonti or Myles Kennedy...

Really? Janet has let me try ANY guitar in the shop... And I've not bought anything yet.

Unless you're confirmed buying then maybe he'll be a little nicer. I doubt I'll ever buy a guitar from them.

If Ranking has one, make that top priority. The folks at Ranking are much nicer. Among the best service I've ever gotten from any guitar shop.

Can't blame the Davies uncle for being skeptical about having HIS PRS in some kid's hands who innocently just wanna check it out. Customer service is one. Heartpain is one. The amount of wear and tear for the guitar due to being so kind would only result the uncle absorbing the huge loss.

Arent SE versions much cheaper than their original counterparts?

yup definitely. the tremonti SE goes for 900 at davis i think.

janet is probably the one with the best customer service in davis, the only one who really let me try my guitar before i bought it then (instead of the others who let me strum 2 chords before unplugging it and then placing the guitar back on the rack).

if you want good customer service, do flash your cash/credit card or bring your parents down when you are trying, they'll treat you better.

Yeah, but doing that also deters potential buyers, including those who have the money for the purchase but want to test if it suits them.

never understood the grumble about davis.
i almost always go there in my school uniform, and all i ever buy there is picks and strings.
I think the most ex thing i bought there is a tuner LOL.

but yet, they treat me really nicely, even the "grumpy" uncle and auntie.

on the other hand.. they completely ignored my friend who was with me.
treated him like he was invisible, and he was actually making a much more expensive purchase :O

haha....totally different story in Australia of GC in USA man.....

Ya, Australia da bomb.

I've always had good service in Davies, be it buying picks or trying out basses with my friend. Friendly people.

PS: Go make automated time machine linkable, and go make myspace. :D

I started playing electric guitar on the Tremonti SE 8 years ago. I don't think you can find things to nik pick about it. It's probably one of the best Singlecut you can get for less than 1k, not considering the used Edwards occasionally on B&S.

If you're nailing for Tremonti's tone, do note that the Tremonti SE is just mahogany while the Tremonti Model has a thick maple cap on it. My opinion is that if you want a PRS, a Singlecut SE will bring you closer than a Tremonti SE.

I think Davis's price is reasonable, you have to factor in shipping and handling as well as any applicable taxes. Most of the overseas store price do not include taxes when you ask them for a quotation. I've good experience with them over the years.

To be frank, ive nvr been a fan of signature models.. the only one i got was my dave mustaine angel of deth ( that being sold too )..

Go try out the tremonti model.

If you manage to, tell us what its like, the guitar is build accustomed to the artist's specs/needs thus it may not suit other people..

On a side basis, the 'grumpy' uncle is 'grumpy' for a reason. Like others have stated, he has watched people dropped not just 1 of his guitars but more like dominoes of them before.. I guess he would be more weary the next time someone requests to test a high end guitar? ..

No bad service from them though.. ( For me at least )

Eh... trick question ah? Basket... hahahaha...

No lah... Because I think I'm the sort of customer she knows might just buy if I really like it. So why waste a chance?

nah....more like cos its just Janet.....

she even took the time to give me a quote on a custom ESP guitar....and i wasnt even serious! thats how seriously she takes her customers.

+1 to janet!

Actually, if you want to nail his tone, any PRS custom with the right pups can work. I think you can get close to it with the Custom 24 SE with the right pups.

What's much more important, is the amp. you'll need either a MESA, or an Uberschall. Hahahahaha...

The body shape do play a huge part. The Tremonti Signature has a thicker body than most Singlecuts, in fact I think it's much closer to a Gibson LP than a PRS Singlecut. The only difference is in the neck scale.

I'm a firm believer of amplifier being more important than the guitar in nailing certain tone. Without a Rectifier, Uberschall or Diezel, I doubt a Custom can get close to his tone even with the right pups since you can't account for the extra chunk of wood in the Tremonti.

Its Definately true theres no way to get that kind of sound from just any ordinary amp. My suggestion is if you have the money to get a PRS you might want to consider getting a boutique amp first. But if your just after looks thats another issue all together.
